Define the following types of abuse:
Physical abuse- Physical abuse involving contact which causes bodily harm, feelings of intimidation. Sexual abuse- Sexual abuse is the forcing of unwanted sexual behaviour by one person upon another. Emotional abuse- Emotional abuse involves threats or actions to cause mental or physical harm, humiliation, violation. Financial abuse- Financial abuse is the illegal or unauthorized use of a person’s money, property, pension book or other valuables.
Self neglect- Self-neglect is a behavioral condition in which an individual neglects to attend to their basic needs, such as personal hygiene, feeding, clothing, or medical conditions they might have. Neglect by others- Neglect is a form of abuse in which the person is responsible to provide care for someone, who is unable to care for themselves, but fails to provide the standard of care to meet their needs. Neglect may include failing to provide sufficient supervision, nourishment, medical care or other needs.

Identify the signs and symptoms associated with each type of abuse:
Physical Abuse:
Injuries that have not received medical attention (not wanting to cause suspicion)
Skin infections
Dehydration or weight loss/gain
Loss of eye contact
Change of behaviour
Sexual Abuse:
Sexually transmitted diseases/pregnancy
Soreness when sitting
Signs that someone is trying to take control of their body image, for example, anorexia
Emotional Abuse:
Low self-esteem or lack of confidence/anxiety
Increased levels of confusion
Sleep disturbance
The person feeling/acting as if they are being watched all of the time
Decreased ability to communicate language
Financial:
Loss of money
Visitors whose visits always coincide with the day a person’s money is cashed
No food in the house
Bills not being paid
Institutional:
Treating adults like children
Lack of choice or options,
