Skills of an event organiser P2
An event organiser needs to plan, organise and meet people when organising an event. The organiser needs to control the whole event, from planning at the start and running the event on the day. The organiser needs to have good communication skills in order to cater for the client’s needs and to give information and instructions to all members of the team. Time management is an essential skill needed from the events manager as they have to make sure the event runs on time so that people won’t complain. In some cases, things do go over time, for example, a band is running 30 minutes late so therefore the concert is running 30 minutes late so therefore the event manager may need to consider different solutions to the problem. These solutions could be for example, moving another band in their time slot. Problem solving is an essential skill needed as many problems may occur before or after the event and it is the event’s organisers role to help resolve of reduce these issues. Sometimes when planning an event, certain issues can hold back the event from happening. For our Hawaiian themed party, we will need to make sure we stay under our budget in order to make a profit. Some equipment costs more than we expect, so the event organiser will need to liaise and negotiate with other members of the team in order to buy the top priorities.

An Event Planner is someone who manages the logistical and operational piece of an event or meeting. As stated in our textbook Professional and Public Writing: A Rhetoric and Reader for Advanced Composition “…professions involve many levels of specialization.” (69), this is especially true for Event Planners. Whether it is a public event or a private affair, complex or casual, every phase of the experience is managed by an Event Planner. In order to manage these events there are several distinctive skills required to be successful and these are: the ability to communicate, creativity, fiscal management, decision-making, leadership, and organization. Noticeably each skill is exceptionally different, however there is one thing that ties them all together: writing. You write to communicate, to express creativity, to budget an event, make deals or contracts with people, guide…

What is event planning? Other than my dream job, event planning is the process of planning special occasions such as – but not limited to – fairs, parades, weddings, reunions, sweet sixteen’s, birthdays, graduations, conferences, political rallies, fashion shows, and memorials. Event planning includes budgeting, establishing dates and alternate dates, selecting and reserving the event set, acquiring permits, and coordinating transportation and parking. The field of event planning is fast-paced, fun, and offers a real possibility for earning a large amount of money. Working in this field requires long hours and high stressed moments through evenings, weekends, holidays, and sometimes specific seasons. “One can work out anywhere from 50-65 hours a week” said Deborah Williams. Some event planners work out of their homes while others rent offices for their business. Event planners are hired when an individual realizes they are unable to plan big events.…
