Introduction to Communicate in Health Social Care or Children’s Young Peoples Settings

Outcome1 - Understand why communication is important in the work setting

1/ Identify different reasons why people communicate?
We all communicate continuously throughout the day. When communicating, people send and receive messages. There are many reasons why people communicate, these reasons could be: * To express feeling, wishes, needs or preferences * Develop relationships * For team work * Obtain and share information * Express thoughts and ideas * To give and receive support

2/ Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work?
Communication in the workplace is exceptionally important. You will need to be able to communicate effectively with service users, managers, colleagues, visitors, teacher and tutors. Effective communication is to understand service users and assist them in according to that, nothing can be done properly without a complete communication. For example, as a care worker, if I could not be able to communicate with my service user because of communication barriers then the service would be unsuccessful. We do different type of jobs in our care job like Child care, elderly peoples care for their personal as well as domestic care with different mental, physical and environmental situation where effective communication is a must in term of provide proper service.

3/ Explain why it is important to observe an individual’s reaction when communicating with them?
There are several reasons to why a service user can not be able to respond while communicating with us. People can use non-verbal methods such as eye contact, body language, facial expressions or gesture. Being able to view non-verbal reactions is very important because these methods may only be the
