Union Role in Wages and Salary Adminitration
Introduction Newage Garment established in 1984, the company has been successfully exporting formal & dress shirts for over two decades to exacting standards. With 220,000 pieces per month production capacity, fabrics used are numerous and include solid and yarn dyed Cotton, CVC, TC, Poplin, Polyester, Twill and Dobby sourced from local and regional suppliers. Their buyers are happy to lean on them for product development based on a large collection of fabric gathered from their extensive network of suppliers. The 5,000 square meter factory is situated in Dhaka and employs over 1,300 people. The factory has received certification from a number of their buyers who are satisfied with their work practices.

1.1 Origin of the Report:

The Report is originated from our Industrial Relations course teacher Tasnuva Rahman and as it’s an essential part of this course. It gives students an opportunity to know real life situation in a better way. Through this report we have get an opportunity to know that the way of compare the following HR practices with Labor Code 2006 in Newage Garment.

1.2 Objectives: Broad objective: The broad objective of preparing this report is to identifying the HR practices with Labor Code 2006 in “Newage Garment.” Specific Objective: The specific objective of the report is to identifying:- - To identify whether there is any trade union or not - To identify whether they gives the employees full salaries or not - Whether there is any sufficient lighting facility, bonus facility, overtime facility or not - Whether there is any working facility, holiday facility and other facility
1.3 Scope and Limitation: To prepare the report as our course teacher mentioned the scope of following to compare the HR practices with Labor Code 2006 so we couldn’t exceed the boundary. In the process of building our report, we have encountered some typical difficulties.

    By doing efforts in the cost of clothing and the salary of garment workers, the goal of poverty reduction will be achieved. This is the precondition Saunders Doug wants to emphasize in his article “Are garment workers' deaths on our hands? no.” Most important of all is to globalize the standardization of work, which the author highlighted the concept by means of raising the safety awareness of garment factories. First of all, the fact from two examples of 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and the collapse in Dhaka indicates workers in garment-factory of developing countries are always in the lower income group and their security is in jeopardy, but they are willing to be in this industry so as to have a path to the western consumers. In addition, the author points out Bangladesh should learn the success of the improvement of security facilities and equipment from North American due to their horrible experience. Moreover, it is significant to raise living standards like China so that the number of poverty in Bangladesh is reduced and the status of women is upgraded. In terms of building codes, safety standards and hygiene, it is difficult to solve these underlying problems. As the world is changing, it is believed that companies will be forced to treat garment workers fairly and give safety guarantee to them. In conclusion, the truly measurement of rescuing garment workers from dangerous situation is able to make the globalization come true by attracting the public eyes on the safety, living condition and the result of workers’ labor.…
