Understanding Primary Sources
My understanding of a primary source is as follows. A primary source is a source that is the most reliable source available. A primary source is coming directly from the person and or group that experienced first-hand what is written in the primary source. A primary source is from the time period when said event happened in. The importance in studying primary sources is because the more original a source is generally is the more reliable source. It is important to study primary sources to get more accurate information. A secondary source can be less accurate due to the actual historical event changing a little every time the story is passed on from person to person. Hearing stories through the, ‘‘grapevine’’ as it’s called can be very unreliable.
