Understand the importance of promoting equality and diversity in work with children and young people.
1.1 Identify the current legalisation and codes of practice relevant to the promotion of equality and valuing of diversity.
Below is a list of the legislations which form the basic government statutory codes of practice and frameworks that school policies and procedures should have in relation to equality and inclusion.
United Nations Convention on the rights of the Child.
This is set up to make sure that all children have rights. All humans have the right to have civil, economic, social, political and cultural rights. It set out details of what every child needs to have a safe, happy and fulfilled childhood regardless of sex, religion, social origin. All humans have to right to be protected, the right to develop, the right to participate, the right to education, happiness and understanding.

This means that all children have the right to learning in the school, to be listened to and valued and protected with the school and surrounding area.

Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and 2005
This Act is set up to protect the rights of people with any disabilities. It places a duty on school to eliminate barriers to ensure that people have equal access to services and a duty for schools to produce a Disability Equality Scheme (DES) and an Access Plan. It also states that schools should try to eliminate harassment and discrimination and encourage inclusion in all parts of school life.
This means that the school should accept children with disabilities and necessary arrangement so the child can join in with all aspects of the school day.
Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001
This Act is set up to prevent the school from discriminating against any pupil with special educational needs or disabilities.

This means schools can not exclude a child who has special educational needs.
