Uncle Tom's Cabin Essay
Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a book introduces the the slave problems in American in 19 century and this book inspired the American Civil War to some extent. However, this book saved many slaves’ life. Selling slave is a critical problem during that period and this activity collide the Christian’s belief seriously.

Mr. Shelby is a ranchman and at that time he was facing a economic problem, so he need to sell some slaves to solve it. Although he thought selling slave wasn’t correct, he still sale the slaves for exchanging money. And his wife, Mrs. Shelby is a devout Christian. Mrs. Shelby did not look down on the them and sell her slaves like other people in the same state, although her servants are slaves. She has a good relationship between she and …show more content…
Shelby behavior is quite different from the Haley’s behavior. Haley did not have any beliefs and he didn’t trust the God. The only belief of Haley is making money, so he didn’t care about making the mother and the son separation is a ruthless behavior. Because he saw the son is really cute and can play interesting actions, he think selling Harry may get lots of money. When he saw someone, he only care about if this slave can exchange money and do not think about the people also have the liberty and humane. To selling more money, he can separate parents and their son, seriously punish the mother who wanted to save their children. He and his friend even proud of the methods of making slaves scared of them. In contrast, Mrs. Shelby is a really kind women. Although she knows that if the slaves run away, she and her husband may lose many money. She still hope her servant could run further with servant’s son. At that time period, selling slaves was a legal activity. Even some people make money by buying and selling the slaves. Mrs. Shelby can keep her mind and treat her servants nicely. It is an outstanding behavior and few of people can do that. Mrs. Shelby trust the God, she believes god may punish the bad person. Because of the belief, Mrs. Shelby thought it is necessary to hold the good minds and God will look at you. On the other hand, Uncle Tom also shows his belief as a Christian - not betrayer his owner.
