Unbroken By Laura Hillenbrand Analysis
Book Critique Paper by: Haley Mather The novel Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, is about the challenging life of Louie Zamperini. Louie is a boy who grew up only knowing how to be in trouble, as in stealing and fighting daily. With the help of his older brother, Pete, Louie tries to clean up his act and gets involved with the school track team. Louie grows up to become an Olympic runner, but his dreams at the gold metal fall short when he is drafted to serve the country. Louie then becomes a bombardier in the Air Corps. The author, Hillenbrand, wrote the novel with great detail to educate about what was happening in the novel and to keep one attached while reading. Unbroken, based on the true story of Louie Zamperini, is about a young boy with a troubled life style, who with the help of his brother, Pete, joins the high school

Louie was gifted with the ability to run fast. Louie received attention from many and later attended college at the University of Southern California to be on the track team. Louie took his gift farther and became an Olympic runner. When he didn’t place in the Olympics Louie pushed himself harder than before, however his dreams at other shot at gold fell apart when he was drafted to serve the country. Louie became an air corps bombardier. Louie made several friends aboard the “Superman”, the B-24 liberator Louie was assigned to. Later in the novel Louie and the crew of the plane crash into the pacific ocean, learning to live off of fish, birds, and rainwater. While floating to land, Louie and the crew were captured by the enemy, the Japanese Navy. After being hospitalized they were sent to a prisoner camp, where Louie was beaten for his fame as an Olympic
