Ultrasound Technician Essay
Ever since I can remember I’ve wanted to grow up and be in the medical field, in high school I did a school research paper on what I wanted to be when I grew up. After weeks and weeks of research I finally found something that I found interesting, and worth doing for a living. My goal is to become an ultrasound technician. An ultrasound technician conducts sonograms to help physicians diagnose and screen medical conditions. Now, when most people say they want to be an ultrasound technician they automatically think they’re going to be giving sonograms of unborn babies; but in reality sonographers take sonograms of all your body’s organs. Some college courses offer 2 year associates programs and others can take up to four years to complete. The sonogram equipment uses sound waves to create an image of the tissues inside the body. The sonogram technician administers ultrasounds to help physicians diagnose and screen medical conditions (1). There are many uses for an ultrasound some including: pregnancy, diagnostics, use in medical procedures, and therapeutic applications. Sonograms use high frequency sound waves in order to capture pictures in real life moments. As a result of this you can see a baby move, see your organs move, and see the blood flow of all organs, and the blood flowing to your baby. As a ultrasound technician you will use what is known as a probe, and some gel to conduct the ultrasound. The probe is what is placed onto the skin, and the gel-sometimes warms, and sometimes cold- are place onto the area that needs to be looked at.
