History

Sponsored by some dynamic and reputed entrepreneurs and eminent industrialists of the country and participated by the Government, UCB started its operation in mid 1983 and has since been able to establish one of the largest network of 110 branches among the first generation banks in the private sector.
With its firm commitment to the economic development of the country, the Bank has already made a distinct mark in the realm of Private Sector Banking through personalised service, innovative practices, dynamic approach and efficient Management. The Bank, aiming to play a leading role in the economic activities of the country, is firmly engaged in the development of trade, commerce and industry thorough a creative credit policy. The Bank has in its Management a combination of highly skilled and eminent bankers of the country of varied experience and expertise successfully led by Mr. M. Shahjahan Bhuiyan, a dynamic banker, as its Managing Director and well educated young, energetic and dedicated officers working with missionary zeal for the growth and progress of the institution.

    The fourth amendment to the United States constitution tells us that ”the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated”. In other words, it is illegal for persons to go through your things without your consent or knowledge. This is fairly straightforward and simple, right? Not exactly! Patricia Dunn was accused of hiring private investigators to investigate members of the board of Hewlett Packard. These investigators used a technique known as pretexting, a practice of getting your personal information under false pretenses (Federal Trade Commission, 2008). In this case the investigators called the phone company used by each of the board members, impersonated the board member, and gave personal information to gain access to the board members’ phone records. Patricia Dunn was told this was legal but didn’t seem to look at the ethical aspect of it. Should she have been forced to resign? My answer to this question is yes!
