Topics for Out-of-Class Essay
Choose ONE of the following topics.
1. In both “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” and “A Good Man is Hard to Find” the day-to-day life of the characters is disrupted by a stranger. Compare and/or contrast the effect of the angel and the Misfit on others.

2. “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and “The Garden Party” both feature troubled families. Compare and/or contrast the sources and/or the consequences of the family problems in both stories.

• Use standard sized, white paper only.
• Use a 12 pt. font (Times New Roman or Calibri are recommended.)
• Double space your work.
• It is recommended that you use a word processor, but if you write your paper by hand, use dark blue or black ink.
• Do NOT put your work in a folder or envelop.
• Include your name, section, my name and the date either on a separate title page or in the top left hand corner of the first page.
• Your paper should be approximately 800-900 words long.
