“Imagery intensifies the impact of the poet’s words as he shows us with his words rather than just telling us what he feels. Song lyrics are full of imagery.” (Eliot, 2015) You have heard of the term “figurative language?” this would also be an example of imagery.
Metaphor is when you describe something with a figure of speech. An example of this would be saying “he is on his high horse.” People use this metaphor when someone thinks their better than others. This said person is not on a horse; the metaphor means he thinks he is above everyone else.
Simile has the same meaning as “comparison.” This is not to be confused with metaphor. This could mean someone comparing two different things. An example of comparison in relation to simile would …show more content…
Character’s Voice – A character’s voice is the voice of the main character how he views the world.” (“Voice definition”, 2015) You will notice some voices that are used in a books or plays are in spoken in first of third person.
Tone is the attitude the author has in the writing, and the attitude the reader feels. Some of this could be sad, cheerfulness, child-like, bored, dramatic, angry, dry humor, and enthusiastic.
Assonance is when words are used and repeat the same vowel sound. They can sometimes have consonant sounds. An example of this could be “he knows there is no end in sight.” You will find this in a lot of poetry.
Alliteration is used to make something sound catchy; it is meant to get someone’s attention by having the same letter or sound. Examples of how alliteration is used would be Coca-Cola, Life Lock, and Dunkin’ Donuts. Alliteration is also used to create a rhyme.
Rhymes are using in a lot of poetry, typically towards the end of the lines. Rhymes bring rhythm to music and poems. An example of this would be “twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you …show more content…
Many times the person that is doing the story telling can be the main character in the book or movie. One of the short stories I read recently was in narrative format; it was called “I stand here ironing” by Tillie Olsen.

A standard ballad consist of four poetic lines and could include six to eight syllables in a line – most of the time the second and fourth lines will rhyme.
