Twilight In The Wilderness Analysis
Frederic Edwin Church was an American landscape painter from Hartford, Connecticut who lived from 1826-1900. The painting that I found most intriguing was “Twilight in the Wilderness” 1860, oil on canvas. Church painted this spectacular view of a blazing sunset over the wilderness near Mount Katahdin in Maine, in fact he had visiting this place two years before and only did a sketch before really putting the 3’4”x5’4” painting together for the Art Museum. This is a romantic Painting and like other romantic painters, Church is trying to convey mood, ant the formal elements he is using to convey this is composition, his color choices and the way in which he uses light.
