CHARACTERISTICS

• Recycling the exhaust, mixed with fresh air, back into the engine for reuse • High-efficiency waste heat recovery system • Electronically controlled engine.
• The vessel hull is painted with a biocide-free, silicone-based antifouling paint

• Malaysia (Port of Tanjung Pelepas) to Spain (Algeciras Port)
• Only had 2 weeks to reach there and 13,000km away from Malaysia
• First destination: Suez Canal
• A monsoon roll in but after 30 minutes it is clear
• Pilot disembarks and Emma accelerate at 40km an hour
• After 24 hours: Arrived at the Strait of Malacca then head west to the Indian
Ocean
• After 6 days, Emma continues to head west
• At the 7th day, reached the Gulf of Aden
• Right turn into Red Sea through the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb
• Travel 1 direction at a time and arrived on schedule: 1am at the southern end of the Suez

VOYAGE OF EMMA MAERSK
• Stops for the first time in almost 5000 nautical miles
• Vicious storm which caused them to be almost 5 hours late
• 4 hours later, passes through the man-made great bitter lake
• Emma was behind schedule for the first time
• Increase 11 RPM and is back on track
• 3 days later: Strait of Gibraltar
• Real problem: Traffic picks up & boat carrier try to leave harbour
• Took more than an hour to travel 1 km
• Pilot comes on board and guide the ship
• Emma reached Algeciras port on schedule with 14 days and 13,000km since she left Malaysia

LOADING & UNLOADING CONTAINERS
• At Tanjung Pelepas: 2000 to be loaded, 450 unloaded
– within 3 hours
– reach next destination on time
