Tumblr vs. Pinterest
Tumblr vs. Pinterest
Tumblr and Pinterest are two completely different websites, yet so similar in character. Tumblr is a blogging site in which users can post pictures, videos, music, and their thoughts. Pinterest, which can also be considered a blogging site, allows users to post pictures and recipes, DIY, and a lot more. Both of these sites have their similarities but differentiate in more ways than one.
Tumblr's history was not quite unique but still very interesting. "Tumblr officially launched on Nov. 1, 2007, after a few months in beta mode"(Barnes). Tumblr has achieved allot since its official launch. “As of mid-2011, Tumblr has more than 10 employees and has received about $40 million in funding from venture capital groups, such as Spark Capital, Sequoia Capital and Union Square Ventures"(Barnes). That is quite an abundance of money for a website that does not charge for membership. “Page views are growing at a rate of 250 million per week, and in June 2011, Tumblr passed competitor WordPress in number of blog's hosted -- more than 20 million"(Barnes). Still Tumblr has a big competitor to compete against Pinterest.
Pinterest's history is unique because of how fast and rapid it grew. "Development of Pinterest began in December 2009, and the site launched as a closed beta in March 2010. The site proceeded to operate in invitation-only open beta."(Hinseth).Though the site only began in 2009 it did not develop until a bit later. “Nine months after launch the website had 10,000 users. Silbermann and a few programmers operated the site out of a small apartment until the summer of 2011"(Hinseth). The abundance in users the site had gained in such a small amount of time is incredible. “In January 2012, comScore reported the site had 11.7 million unique users, making it the fastest site in history to break through the 10 million unique visitor mark. Pinterest's wide reach helped it achieve an average of 11 million visits each week in December 2011"(Hinseth).

    1) MySpace’s distinctive position in the social networking market can be extremely valuable if all moves are carefully calculated and made. Every weakness can become an opportunity therefore MySpace’s vulnerable position can become a strength in the future. If MySpace spends money on research and development, they can find out exactly what the market is looking for in terms of social media and what is expected and therefore be up to par with current hot social media sites such as Facebook. As Van Natta said ”MySpace can foster discovery of music, films, and TV in a way that others cant”, this gives MySpace an advantage to be different from other social media sites making them just as popular as the competition.…
