Tru-Fit Case Study Essay
Transfer Price
Issue:
1. OEM Division does not know the accurate transfer price to AM, because Tru-fit has never sold that parts in outside OEM market.
2. Unable to adjust transfer price to inflation.
** Therefore, no accurate transfer price of products from OEM and AM.**

Problem: Unclear transfer price policy.

Recommendation:
1. Market-base price: In this case, OEM never sold parts to outside OEM market thus, OEM can not know the accurate transfer price because there is no current external market. However, OEM can do the research to figure out the market price but it could be costly and takes time.
2. Cost-plus price: Where there is no external market price.
2 ways to compute cost-plus price;
Standard variable cost + markup (represent contribution margin)

The appropriate method is to use standard variable cost because it is intended to use for internal managerial decision make while absorption cost intends for external distribution.
3. Negotiated price: OEM can start from using a market price, however, in this case there is no current market price.
Conclusion: Tru-fit should use a cost-plus price to set up the transfer price policy in order where there is no market price exist. However, Tru fit needs to consider about the external market and spare capacity. In this case, there is no current external market for the part that OEM never sold externally and there is an excessive inventories level thus, OEM does not need to compute the opportunity cost to give up on selling products to AM.

    1. For the equipment Hemo-Tech should use its best estimate of selling price. Since it does not have a price on its own and the two competitors’ sell a different model or the same model to a different set of customers, it must use its best estimate according to 605-25-30-6C. Since the cost to manufacture the equipment including labor, materials, and allocated R&D is known, as well as an estimated markup based on its history of margins as well as the added benefits of the new model, a reasonable estimate can be made.…

    Absorption based costing method (ABC) is used by companies to identify activities that it performs and then assigns direct and indirect costs to the product’s overall pricing. This method helps businesses determine the cost drivers that influence the product’s sales price by increase or decrease. ABC uses cost drivers, such as, direct labor, direct material along with transaction-based drivers. In this way, long-term variables overheads, traditionally considered fixed costs, can be traced to products (AICPA, 2014). The process used when applying the ABC method…

    In the case of Honig v. Doe, it was the first case to reach the Supreme Court dealing with discipline of special education students. This case took place in 1988 after two students from the San Francisco School District with emotional disabilities and aggressive tendencies were threatened with expulsion. John Doe (a pseudonym) was a socially and physically awkward 17 year-old who had difficulty controlling his impulses and anger. From early on in school, physical abnormalities, speech difficulties, and poor grooming habits resulted in his being the target of classmates teasing and ridiculing him. One day, in response to taunts from a fellow student at a developmental center for disabled students, he reacted in an explosive manner anticipated by his individualized education (IEP). He choked a student with enough force to leave abrasions on the boy’s neck. Afterwards, while being taken to the principal’s office, John kicked out a window. John was suspended from school for 5 days. The principal recommended that he be expelled. A lawsuit was filed, and the federal district court issued a temporary order directing the school to return John to his then current educational placement.…
