Troy Polamalu
Troy Polamalu The player that was drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers is known for his tenacity, but even better for his behavior on and off the field. Troy Polamalu is a two time Superbowl champion and the National Football League's 2010 Defensive player of the year, but you will never hear him stating that he deserves the praise for either of these two accomplishments. The Safety is known for constantly being involved with the community and working hard to make an impact on the field, but he expects very little fanfare and publicity. Troy is the embodiment of ethics in a sport that includes bone breaking hits and trash talkers that can rival the likes of Michael Jordan and Chad Ochocinco. He is an ethical model because of his actions on the field, his selfless attitude, and his contributions to the community. …show more content…
He did not just wake up one day and become the Defensive player of the year by doing nothing, it took him days and days of practice and hard work to earn that title. The player is very dedicated and passionate about what he does, which are traits that very few people possess. On the field, you will never see him taking part in acts such as showboating or dancing after his team has made a game winning touchdown. His humble behavior is something that I try to model when I am playing basketball or football. I learned that it is not necessary to make the other team know how much you have excelled at your sport, if you are good then they will notice. There is no need to make someone else feel bad because they are not as gifted as you are in some areas of life, they may still be better than you at many other activities other than sports. Furthermore, I learned that if you are good at a sport, it is not entirely because of your skills that the team is

Now I know for most, this seems like just a very impressive basketball resume, but for others it is more. Others see those accomplishments as an embodiment of what you can accomplish in life with that same mentality. Sure, the odds of winning five titles and becoming an NBA superstar are low. However, when you carry that “Mamba Mentality”, you can accomplish great things. Think about the millions of kids and maybe even some adults that Kobe has inspired to be like him, and no matter how dark it gets, there is always a light, and if you fight and endure, great things can happen.…

A success a child has, such as being accepted into the Eagles program, can define how they see themself in the future. Success and self worth go hand in hand. Dr. Dweck highlights the existence of the two mindsets and their relation to self valuability with the case of two athletes. When it comes to four year tennis all star John McEnroe, his accomplishments led him to feel superior to others. His talent made him better than others. He would yell brutally at assistants he deemed lesser, and other people treated him as a god. He possessed a fixed mindset: he held a high amount of talent, and his successes defined him as a special human being. On the contrary, another athlete superstar Michael Jordan was of the growth mindset. He had worked hard to earn his success, he was not simply born with it. He did not believe that his talented was fixed, or that it was within him at all times. Therefore, he did not see himself as above any other person. He wanted to be treated like everyone…

In 2005 the world had been introduced to one of the best collegiate running backs to ever go through the University of Southern California. His name is Reggie Bush and he achieved one of the best personal awards any collegiate football player could want and that would be the Heisman award. Reggie bush played running back for USC in 2005, he was 6 foot tall and weighed 200 pounds, and he played tailback as a sophomore in college and played in 13 games. He was named “Pigskin club of Washington D.C offensive player of the year.” He was also named the2004 PAC-10 offensive player of the year, “Then He was named the 2005 Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year (just the fifth player ever so honored and the first non-quarterback to do it in 20 years) and also made the All-Pac-10 first team as a tailback (the squad's only unanimous pick) and second team as a punt returner.” Nor do I need to mention that he won the 2005 Heisman trophy award by a landslide. Bush received 2,541 points and beat Young by a staggering 93 points. Everybody knows that bush deserves the Heisman trophy whether they want to admit to it or not Bush was the best.…

He achieved that goal because he was ambitious and was not going to let anything stop him from doing that. I had that ambition in the first year of high school, but it didn’t turn out that well and it’s going to sound dumb what stopped me from trying out. Let me tell you the story first. The school basketball workouts to get you in shape for tryouts. I attended almost every single one, and they were hard. I didn’t want to go, but I forced myself to go because I had the ambition to work hard and make the team. Well, it didn’t go so well, because earlier in the year I had signed up for Driver’s Ed. Well first of all, It was really hard to sign up for that class, because people sign up so fast. Also we had already paid for it so I couldn’t get out of the class. Well, when tryout day came I found out that I had Driver’s Ed. and even if I skipped Driver’s Ed and went to tryouts I couldn’t go to the practices, because of Driver’s Ed. It is a stupid reason, but even though I didn’t try out I wanted to be on the team so bad and I tried really hard and worked hard, but it all kind of worked out In two months I will get my permit and will be able to drive. Also there is always next year, and I can improve my skills to make it for sure this…

I was very respectful but wanted to know why he would treat me the way he did. Finally as the JV season ended, the varsity coaches approached me and told me they were proud of how I responded to the adversity and brought me up to play on varsity. As a sophomore that was a big deal to me. What I learned from that situation is that as long as you keep your composure, talk with the others to see their point of view, and always keep working hard, you will always conquer the adversity no matter what. I had to deal with constant adversity for almost 5 months but I beat it and learned a big life lesson. I am glad I went through that basketball…

    Humble

Admitting that I am not the best at everything, is one of the ways that I learned to be humble. Being a football athlete, is very challenging because it seems as if I have had to carry the team on my shoulder. After every game, someone would tell me that it looked as if I was doing all the work by myself and like I was not getting any help. In fact, I felt as if I was doing everything on my own, and I was going hard on the field as well. I even had one person to tell me, that Terrell White was “That Guy” on the team. All of this had me feeling as if I was the best player on the team and no one could do better than I did, but all of that changed before I knew it. We had a game against Northeast and we were winning; I was in the game going hard as usual, and after a play I was took out of the game because of my bad attitude. Once I was out of the game, the score began to go downhill, and we lost the game. I was angry, frustrated, disappointed, and I felt that it was all my fault that we lost the game. After the game, I finally came to my senses. I realized that I had embarrassed myself as a team leader and I felt as if I had let my team down. Because of this, I also realized that I was becoming arrogant and letting my ego get the best of me by letting what people said get to my head. With my realization, I came to accept the fact that I was not and I am not the best on the team. I became humble enough to…
