Tres Hermanos Short Story Analysis
Another story that I am going to discuss is Tres Hermanos which is about three brothers who go on a journey for their parents. The first two brothers get caught by a fascinating town, get some money from the man and completely forget about their parents. In this story, those two brothers’ characters are pretty much the same. The first one “lied to her and told her he had no water,” (1611) and he replied to the man “I’ll take the money” (1612). Similarly, the second one also “didn’t share his water or food with her,” (1612) and he chose “The bagful of money” (1612). From those two brothers’ behavior, we can easily see that they have no loyalty to their parents and God as well as they are too greedy to keep their promises. However, the youngest

The author I admire most is Bartolome De las Casas, because he went against the consensus of the Spaniards and defended the Native Americans. In the final paragraph of the reading, De las Casas states “The Indians will embrace the teachings of the gospel, as I well know…” (De Las Casas 2010) . This leads me to believe he actually spent time getting to know them as people. He took the time to learn about their art, music, government and other aspects of their lives. I believe he honestly wanted to help the Native Americans.…

People may think that just because we give an inmate education they will never change in life. I don’t agree on that George Chochos is a person who went jail to Yale and his story will prove all my 3 points. Chochos was first arrested when he was 18, serving only 8 months he got out and as months went on he was in and out of jails and colleges. On October 1999 chochos was sentenced to a 14 year sentence for bank robberies. Chochos spent the first 10 months in the Rensselaer County Jail, and then was transferred to Downstate Correctional Facility for 10 days until eventually he was sent to the sing sing correctional…

In Julia Alvarez's Yo!, Yolanda Garcia's family and friends get their chance to tell the truth about Yo. They express their feelings and their stories about Yo, including how she's always told lies, how she stole the plot for a story from a student, and how her college professor kept trying to prevent her from ruining her life and her talents. Alvarez tells Yolanda's story through other characters, while Yo is denied the privilege of defending herself. It is ironic because initially, the novel is based on Yolanda and how angry her loved ones are after she publishes a book that exposes personal things about each of them. In this novel, these very people are working to set the story straight and portray the true Yolanda Garcia that they know, a liar, a plagiarist, and a dropout.…

World renowned author and playwright, Luis Valdez, carries a rich Mexican-American historical background that gives him the ability to integrate his beautiful culture in his writings. In 1940, Luis Valdez was born into a family of migrant workers along with his nine brothers and sisters. According to the Encyclopedia of World Biography in an excerpt on Luis Valdez, he began picking crops at the age of six and was forced to travel around California’s San Fernando Valley, following the ripening of different crops. Growing up in a typical Mexican stereotype household, a low-class yet hard working family, Luis Valdez was able to obtain valuable and detailed experiences that he would later use in his writings such as “Los Vendidos.”…

It was one of the best nights in a long time. There I was looking at the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on. I was truly the luckiest guy in all of the earth. Pearl was not only the sweetest woman I had ever met, but, also the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Sure we had our ups and downs but in the end we loved each other and that was all that mattered. There was nothing standing in the way of us. Well, maybe one thing… or should I say person… Fortunato. You see, Fortunato was a rich man, richer than I’d ever be. His family pretty much owned the town and everything in it. He would always confront my girlfriend telling her about how happy he could make her and the wonderful life they could have together. I knew that this was true. Whenever I would ask pearl about him she would tell me not to worry and explained how she would never love him. These words would relieve me for short periods until the next time I heard of him addressing her. Fortunato was also a very persistent man and was not used to being told no to having things he wanted. Once he caused a ruckus so big I thought a war might break out. I feared that his endurance and his liking for my mistress would not benefit me at all and for this I was worried.…

In order to delineate the notional structure for The Velveteen Rabbit, one must first assess the correct discourse type. In reviewing the narrative, procedural, behavioral, and expository discourse types, The Velveteen Rabbit is undeniably a narrative discourse in surface and notional structure. The plot or notional structure of the story provides insights into what one would imagine is a toy's ultimate dream of being loved and becoming real. The story begins with the phrase, "There was once a velveteen rabbit, and in the beginning he was really splendid." This sentence is an example of a formulaic aperture. This narrative discourse takes us from its introduction as a new toy stuffed in a stocking on Christmas morning through an early period in a boy's adolescence as seen through the eyes of a toy rabbit made of velveteen.…
