Travel Broadens the Mind
Travel Broadens the Mind

Today most people view travelling as a time to relax and spend their time in a stress free environment. In my opinion travel does broaden the mind even if you are only relaxing. Enjoying the scenery, the food and the culture all are a part of broadening one’s mind. It is know that a lot of good writers and successful people have had extraordinary new ideas after travelling and. Travelling can influence our thinking. Although this may be true to many people, there are some cases where travelling cannot always broaden some people’s minds. Some people may experience culture shock where they become mentally confused.
The aim of travelling nowadays may not only be for relaxation, but also business. To businesspeople, travelling is part of their job. They are sent to countries to invest, promote, to enhance the relationship between areas and developing the economy. It is so easy to hop on a plane and fly anywhere. The transport in some countries will enable us to visit places we have never been before. Some people feel that a person’s education is not complete unless he has travelled, as they experience new things. I think that this can only be true if the traveller chooses where they want to go wisely. If they chose a place like a resort, they are hardly going to broaden their mind, whilst if they go somewhere like Rome, they will be taking in culture and history. Still, you do not have to travel a great distance to experience new things.
To broaden one’s mind means to feel the soul of the country. To achieve this, the traveller will need to leave his customs and country behind. He must become like one of them, visit local places, markets and see the country how the locals see it. The traveller needs to get involved with the country. Living in another culture enables people to add it to their own culture. You learn about new religions, customs, and visit different places that are treasured by that country, whether it may be visiting a temple or a museum. One can pick up new languages, which can increase your confidence, pick up new sayings, which will help you to converse with the locals.

A new language gives a different outlook on life.

Travel also teaches you independence, because it allows you to escape the common surroundings of your home. You have to leave the majority of your goods behind and cope with just a few of what you may take for granted. This in itself teaches you to manage just having a few goods. Some people find when they travel, they think about their own customs and manner of life and learn to treasure their heritage. Travelling gives people new ideas that can change their beliefs and views on certain things and can help you to be more open minded. Some students have said that after they have travelled, they have picked up their own views on politics and other things in the world.

Travelling can also make you more a.ware of other traditions and help you comprehend different views and understanding that foreign people have. Package holidays are becoming increasingly popular every year and travelling to new countries is now becoming more available and inexpensive. The tours on these packages are the worst way to see the area, as it is timed. You cannot fully take in or see everything properly in the amount of time provided. That is why it is best to take your own time and make sure you make the most of the experience. From having a look at all this information, I have concluded that travel does broaden the mind, even if it may be at a resort or for business. It doesn’t matter if you do not understand the language or have never been to the area, you will always find something that you have never seen or experience something that you have never experienced before. I think the culture of the country has a lot to do with the broadening of one’s mind. The culture can make a person see things in a different way a learn something different about certain people. Even if you travel within your country or just outside it, you will always learn new things and see new things, therefore broadening your mind.

One of the advantages of travel is that it broadens the mind or, in other words, broadens an individual’s life experiences. In addition, the exposure to a another part of your own country or a foreign country allows you to reexamine your life and to reassess your way of thinking. Another advantage, in the case of foreign travel, is that it is a reason for learning a foreign language. Learning a foreign language provides you with both intellectual stimulation and a means of understanding a foreign culture. Through being able to communicate in a foreign language, this opens up new doors for you – you can meet a whole variety of different people. Travel can also help you get back to your roots. For people whose parents or grandparents were immigrants, travelling to the land where their forefathers came from allows them to understand their origins and, thus, to understand their place in history. "Traveling is a fool's paradise," Ralph Waldo Emerson said. "I have no cranky objection to world travel for the purposes of art, of study, and goodwill, as long as the individual is first domesticated, or doesn't go abroad with the hope of finding something greater that what he knows. He who travels to be amused, or to get something he doesn't have within, travels away from himself…" While Emerson's comments may seem extreme to those who enjoy the occasional trip for leisure, he makes an important point regarding the value of travel from both a scholarly and personal standpoint. Studying abroad fulfills what Emerson sees as the deeper purpose of travel, which I realized last fall semester when I studied abroad at the University of…

Travel to North America has shaped the United States into what it is today. If that had never occurred then the world would be a completely different place. There are two different journeys when one travels, the outer journey of seeing incredible sights and doing incredible things and the inner journey of how the new experiences shape someone and the way it changes one's perspective (D2). One are transformed each time they go someplace new. Each new journey comes with many upon many new experiences. This is why humans long to travel, in hopes to lose oneself, find oneself, open one’s eyes and hearts, and “become young fools again” (F1). To be able to get away and find a new perspective on things is something everyone looks for that can even help us mentally.…

One thing is for certain, we only serve to gain from our travels. Two paths await you when you travel. You can leave behind all the comforts of home and set off for a sheltered location that provides all the same comforts available to you at home. Or you can take the second route. Shed your lifestyle, customs, and certainties and escape into a new world that you can fully embrace. Trust me, the second path is always more fulfilling, plus the stories you come home with will be even better than any spa retreat could ever serve up. Travel should be something you learn from as much as to enjoy. Anyone can travel, but smart travelers will approach everything with an open mind and heart that allows them to see the real beauty in the places they set out to explore. Here are some of my favorite travel quotes to get you thinking differently about the way you travel. On Why You Should Travel Experience travel, these are as education in themselves. Euripides He who does not travel does not know the value of men. Moorish Proverb Wandering re-establishes the original harmony which once existed between man and the universe. Anatole France The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. St. Augustine Motivation To Go Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds. Explore. Dream. Discover. Mark Twain Adventure is worthwhile in itself. Amelia Earhart Only those who will…

    Why Do People Travel

Firstly, people travel out of curiosity. The mass explosion of media exposes people to endless flow of information, thus expanding their horizon to an unprecedented extent, which arouses people’s curiosity about the unknown. The more curious one gets, the more one wants to explore the unexplored. Splendid natural wonders like Grand Canyon in the States and Great Barrier Reef in Australia, magnificent architectures like the Imperial Palace in China and Versailles in France, alluring distinctive ethnic cultures, thrilling adventures like gliding and diving… attract people like magnets. Only through travelling can theses so-called splendor, magnificence, allurement and thrills be real. Besides, curiosity also leads people to mediation and reflection: what is the difference between our own culture and its counterparts? Is the account in documentaries or tour guide mirroring the reality of that society? Some travelers got disillusioned when seeing the ugly cracks on the wall of the beautiful Sydney Opera House, while others felt surprised when tasting a palatable dish in Britain which is known for its terrible cuisine… no matter how reality treats you, this precious experience cannot be attained by mere reading and daydreaming, and only through travelling can people’s curiosity be fully satisfied.…

Why do we travel ? As Pico Iyer mentioned in his article “ Why We Travel “ Travelling gives us the advantage of losing all of the stress around; moreover, it lets us enjoy a deep break. In addition, travelling uncovers the other cultures with a way that hearing or reading about cannot cover. Further more, travelling is more about feeling younger and reliving your life, it is about taking life slower so you could enjoy every moment in it. Iyer explained in his article how living the experience is totally different from hearing or reading about it. Iyer used different ways in his article to convince the people how travelling could change their ways of looking at the world. Iyer’s article is about how travelling could help us gain more knowledge and get more educated. Iyer was effective in bringing the thought of how valuable voyaging is. He utilized the rhetorical appeals to deliver his opinion to his audience. However, he made some fallacies while delivering his opinion.…

Education believes that travelling gives students an opportunity to think and explore for them what the world is about. World now a days use travelling to promote education and there is no measurement system to gauge a person’s learning scale because each is unique in their own way. Traveling has become an inseparable part of modern living. We travel for business, for sight-seeing and for necessity. Travel makes a man perfect though we all knew nobody is perfect. Travelling refines our knowledge gained from books. Whenever we gained some information from a particular book, we often try to imagine those things that we read and then later on we would want to travel to different places to try those things and ideas that we just read from a book. Ideas strike root in the heart we do things we love and part of it is travelling. Travelling make us feel whole and new. Try to imagine a man at the top of a mountain, he realizes the littleness of his own self and he feels the pettiness of human quarrels and conflicts, and a sense of realization raises him to a higher level. Beyond this and above all is enjoyment, which is the main business of both travel and education to increase as they can. Travelling makes we realize those things that Education cannot. Believe it or not youths now days will pick travelling than Education. When as a matter of factly we can pick both. Youths are more aggressive than we expect them to be and even I would pick some thrill than something boring and plain. Why will I stick to something old when something new and educative is waiting for me? But because Education is important professionals today are acknowledging and raising some Educational tours like Fieldtrips and Seminars to make youths more interested in the way that they will also be benefited to the Education and Information that they will gather throughout the tour. This kind of learning experience is like a…
