Case 1:

Cargo’s which have already left Antwerp port and on way to New York is being diverted to Halifax port in Canada due to strike in New York port. Now the route diverted will be Antwerp - Halifax by sea and Halifax - Chicago by road.

Case 2:

Cargo’s which are waiting to leave from Antwerp port to New York now is being diverted to Houston port and from Houston port to Chicago is sent by rail.

Case 3:

Route 1: Cargos that are yet to leave Dubai is now being sent to Halifax, Canada and from Halifax port by road or air is being transported to Chicago.

Route 2: Another alternative from Dubai is we can send the cargos from Dubai to Houston Port via Antwerp. From Houston port is sent by rail to Chicago.

3. Do the scenario analysis by listing down the challenges in view of the impending strike of the longshoremen.

1. The sea freight may get rerouted through Houston and Louisiana and Chicago can then be connected by Rail/Road. This rerouting has several challenges on the port capacities at the gulf ports as their capacities will be strained.
2. The existing cargo which has already left from the port of dispatch will get rerouted to nearby Canadian ports. Halifax, Kingston ports provide good alternate solutions. This cargo will have to rout by road from Canada. The logistics companies will have to plan out this at very brisk pace. The new road transport from Canadian ports to Chicago as well as border clearances, Canada border regulations are additional challenges for these companies.
3. The sea freight left from the Asian countries can be air lifted and delivered directly to the destination through European Airports to meet the delivery commitments. Amsterdam – Rotterdam can be used as intermodal connection hub. This alternative may provide a reliable and faster mode but it comes at a very high cost. It poses a
