I. Result and Discussion
1. Effect of the Environment Factors on the Rate of Transpiration
The quantitative rate of transpiration of the branch of papua dilaw was determined using the potometer. The distance travelled by the bubble in the capillary per unit of time was observed under different treatments: a. in front of a fan, b. exposed to light, c. fan and light, d. no treatment.

Given the data above, it can be simplified that the treatment with the use of both fan and light yielded the highest rate of transpiration. In contrast, the control treatment showed the lowest rate of transpiration. Light plays an important role in the rate of transpiration. The stoma of the plant opens when exposed to light which permits the transpiration to occur. Oppositely, when there is the absence of light, transpiration ceases (Bold, 1997). The effects of other environmental factors are, therefore, dependent upon the presence of light. Wind affects the rate of transpiration because the water vapor in the leaf area is being dispersed by the wind; as the vapor is being dispersed, the rate of transpiration will increase (Levitt, 1974).
2. Effect of Leaf Characteristics on the Rate of Transpiration
The weight of the leaves of kaimito, mahogany, avocado, kaatoang bangkal, yemane, and mangium were determined initially and after one hour of exposure to the electric fan. The area of each leaf was also determined using the weight method. Finally, the

    The next step was then to let the animal sit for 45 seconds before plugging up the other end so that tube and gerbil received enough oxygen. Once the 45 second mark was reached we plugged the other end of the plastic tube, and then put the glass pipette in the opening of the one plug. Once the pipette was securely attached soap was put at the end of the glass pipette. The soap that was put there produced a bubble, which was used for measuring the oxygen consumption of the animal up to four grams. We then repeated this process three more times and with two different gerbils. At the end of our experience out hypothesis was correct. Also, the temperature in the chamber will usually fluctuate because when the animal breathes in and out it will be giving off heat. This heat will cause the temperature in the chamber to increase.     Transpiration is the loss of water vapor from land plants into the atmosphere, causing movement of water through the plant from the soil to the atmosphere via roots, shoot and leaves, which occurs mainly through the stomata. Factors which can affect the rate of transpiration are those such as temperature, humidity, wind, and light, and the water in the soil. A plant cannot continue to transpire rapidly if its water loss is not made up by replacement from the soil. When absorption of water by the roots fails to keep up with the rate of transpiration, loss of turgor occurs, and the stomata close. This immediately reduces the rate of transpiration (as well as of photosynthesis). If the loss of turgor extends to the rest of the leaf and stem, the plant wilts. To measure transpiration, you can artificially create the environment for a plant for which you want to transpire. For example, if you have a .1 mL pipette, plastic tubing and a leaf, you have almost all the materials you need to measure the rate of transpiration for that leaf and whatever environmental conditions you impose upon the leaf. One will be examining the amount of water in the tubing which is being used, and from there you can tell how much water has been used.…
