I guess what changed my way, was when I moved out of my parents house. It completely changed me, and was a huge step towards my education and work ethic. Once you go out on your own, you have so many more things you have to keep track of, especially for me because I have never really done much work. There are so many things you need to do to maintain a house. It was hard at first but with time it became easier, and easier. It made me want to accomplish better things in life.…
In the past, I have become disconnected from my personal life because of goals that I have set for myself. For the last year, I had to balance schooling, work and sports. My life quickly went away, as I become lost in trying to balance all three with my personal life. I was unable to properly maintain any of the four, as I was trying too hard to balance them all at once. I finally decided it was time to release myself from this never ending cycle, and quit my soccer team, along with reducing my hours at work. My ambition to succeed was quickly becoming the cause of my failure.…
According to Mezirow’s (1990) theory of transformative learning, to make meaning means to make sense of an experience (Bass, 1990). The way in which we interpret our experiences influence the decisions we make, and our actions and behaviours. In this paper, I will critically reflect on the four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm using Mezirow’s theory of transformative learning. In addition, I will explore my meaning schemes and meaning perspectives of the four concepts in the nursing metaparadigm. Furthermore, I will write down my own definition of each of the four concepts and further explain them by providing clinical examples of each definition. Moreover, I will determine…
From the beginning of time you digest been taught to be traditional. Go to college, get a job, and move out into your accept place, then get married, start and family and the cycle starts all everywhere again. I could choose the most perfect world for me, I would never want to leave it behind. On the other hand, I’ll be forever grateful even on my death bed, I would still be delighted. But in order to get to my Quality world I must first go through some difficult challenges. I must first graduate from college the rest should go downhill after that. In the meantime, my goal is to focus on my education and avoid any and all distractions.…
After taking the Life Factors assessment, I learned that I need to be more concerned about my future academic commitment and that my reason for going back to school may be a concern. I guess it’s because I get discouraged at times. Sometimes, I sit and think of the reasons why I’m in school and how it will benefit me. I don’t want to be one of those people with two degrees, and no job, that’s scary to me. Having ample time, having a place to study, and having a solid level of resources and support were all strengths of mine. My strengths are very important when it comes to me being in school, especially an online school. It wouldn’t be easy for me to concentrate and finish my assignments without having a place that I can study without interruptions or having the necessary resources that I need to excel in my course. The support from friends and family is another strength that I feel I need to continue my education. The motivation and extra push is what keeps me going. I think reason is the life factor that I need to focus on the most. I guess I’m one of those people who believe that you can success depends on your work ethic and how much you want it rather than your education because coming from where I’m from, the most successful people are the ones who don’t have a degree. I try to be realistic because I know that in this day and time, a degree is much needed but when people ask me why I need a degree, I’m speechless. I think my reason for getting a degree is because it looks good and I’m afraid that I’ll regret it if I don’t finish. I will change my behavior by figuring out just why I want my education and focusing on the goal that I want to set. Procrastination and time management are the personality factors that I will work most to strengthen because doing things at the last minute and rushing through it is a big problem for me. It’s easier for me to work under pressure but time isn’t always on my side so I think that learning to work at a decent pace will…
Transformational change occurs when a person faces a significant decision or situation that will change their life. Being a transformative learner is to reflect on how some of the past experiences we have been through and how those experiences have changed our feelings, thoughts, and actions. There are four stages of the transformational learning process. These four stages consist of: (1) Recognizing a specific problem- In this stage of the process, the person has realized that there is some type of change that needs to happen in their life. You have to know what the problem is so you can reflect on that certain area. (2) Confronting the problem intensely- This means you must address the problem without procrastinating and be open-minded to new ideas. In this stage, serious thinking is very important; figuring out what has or hasn’t worked in the past will help you change the problem. (3) Finding the solution- This means, evaluating the reasons and causes of the problem, reflecting on the things that have worked or not worked in the past, and figuring out what steps you need to take to solve the problem. (4) Integrating a new perspective and a new set of assumptions into your life- Now you must look at things in your life at a different view. You will have a new way of handling situations and a new outlook on how you do things in your life.…
Organizing all I wish to do and accomplish in a way that reflects my values, however, is a promising place to start. Writing down my scattered thoughts and organizing my projects, something I learned from Making It all Work by David Allen, is also beneficial, as it allows me to be fully present during my next task. That is because every distraction has its place on a list. Likewise, by completing my Personal Scope and Personal Schedule, I was able to add some reality to my hopes for the year. By doing these exercises, I was able to better understand the amount of time at hand, the priority I should give to certain situations, and how to make my weekly life reflect the values I hold. It shook me slightly how much time my commitment to work, for example, took away from studying and socializing with friends. By putting my job under “assumption” on the Personal Scope I was better able to picture the time I have. This also allowed me to find a balance between the obligations that need to be met, my extracurriculars and my activities of interest, as well as specific time reserved for myself. This balance will be essential if I hope to complete this year at optimal mental and physical…
The four stages of the transformational learning process are identifying the problem, confronting the problem, finding a solution, and integration of knowledge. The first stage is called confronting the problem. This is a big integral part to any problem one may be facing in their lives. You have to first identify and recognize that there is a problem and admit that the problem exist. The second stage of the transformational learning process is confronting the problem. Once you take ownership of the problem it is time to start re-evaluating other options to see what works and what does not work in order to eventually come to an effective solution. The third stage is finding a solution to your problem. During this stage you will have to gather all of the information you have received from conducting research and/or from a professional expert and begin to weigh those options and begin setting realistic objectives and strategies to see how you get to there and how long the process to your transformation will take. The final stage is called integration of knowledge. Once you have taken all that you have learned from the previous transformation stages and begin a life changing transformation, you will begin to see things more different and if another situation arises you will handle it with much more ease because of the experiences gained throughout your previous transformational process.…
When faced with change, the educated and experienced individual will make it quickly. It does not take much hardship to make a person want to make an improvement in their life.…

A transformative instructor is one that supports students in their progression of the emancipatory learning process. Emanicipatory learning’s purpose is, “to develop understanding and knowledge about the nature and root causes of unsatisfactory circumstances in order to develop real strategies to change them,” (Thompson, 2011). The definition of emanicipatory learning is, “The radical tradition in adult learning is concerned with how learning, knowledge and education can be used to…
The ubiquitous and, subsequently in our paper, stridently discussed Vicarious learning which predominantly occurs by observing others actions and responses, consequently, note out positive and negative consequences of individual actions and eventually results in imitation of these observed actions. Both Operant Conditioning and Vicarious Learning are parts of BMP and can both affect the behavior and consequences of certain individuals, as, for instance, in our chosen infomercial the ‘Midas Touch Jewelers’ afford customers the exchange of the broken and already unneeded valuables for a high and absolutely consolatory prices.…
In school I will stay ahead of the deadlines and be precise with my assignments by proofreading everything before I turn in my assignment. With work I will continue to live by sequence and not minding if I didn’t complete everything I set off to do that day, there is always tomorrow. Lastly, I have opened up to the different Learning Patterns. I made a positive change this evening with opening up to Confluence which I avoided. I took a risk and learned how to drive stick shift for the first time. Granted I stalled at an intersection but taking that risk brought me a lesson of patience and a better understanding of my Learning…
Another point we must remember is that when a person is trying to achieve a goal, he/she gets transformed. Whether they reach the goal or not is a different matter altogether. For example, when a person is preparing for a competitive exam, his / her knowledge level increases and his horizon widens. Whether he/ she make it through the exam is a different…
The first step in balancing school, work and a busy life is making a schedule. When deciding to juggle a busy life you have to be prepared to have school assignments, run errands, and to be called off schedule at work. First creating a plan that can be used all times will help you keep these things in place. Second in the beginning of the week set a timetable for work, studying and family time. By doing this you will have a clear mind set of how your time should be spent. You’re not going to successfully juggle work with your other priorities unless you exercise a little discipline. This doesn’t have to be as painful and no fun as it sounds. Before you take on a new job, sit down and write down all of your priorities, followed by about how much time they take up each week. Estimate on the high end. Then decipher how much time you require to chill out with your BFF, tweet your heart out, etc. Now crunch the numbers and visually perceive how much time you’ll have to work. Even if it’s only enough for a shift or two a week of work, that’s fine. That is of course, unless you require working a certain amount each month to pay for rent and other cost-of-living expenses, in which case you might be obliged to skimp on socializing time.…
