Transformational Leadership Essay
Transformational leadership is a topic which I find very interesting; and, is also relevant to my professional field and the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Given the current business climate, it is imperative that organizational leaders have an idea of where they want to take the company, be able to influence others to buy into the idea, and take the actions necessary to achieve the goals that are set for the organization.

In her article, What is Transformational Leadership? How New Ideas Produce Impressive Results, Pamela Spahr (2015) states, “Transformational Leadership inspires people to achieve unexpected or remarkable results. It gives workers autonomy over specific jobs, as well as the

People want to have a purpose in the things that they do; so creating and communicating an inspiring vision helps to give them value in what they are doing and inspires them to work harder towards goals. Once a vision has been created, the leader must ensure that this vision in consistently communicated to team members. This allows people to stay motivated and to align their personal goals with the goals of the team and the organization. Once the vision has been created and communicated and people have bought into it, the leader needs to start to implement actions steps that will help the team to achieve the vision. This often results in the development of new and innovative processes and tools. Transformational leaders focus on their people and work along with them to help them to achieve their goals. By promoting self-development and growth, these leaders ensure that their people are constantly upgrading their capabilities. When people have improved their capabilities, they are able to undertake greater responsibilities and the leader is able to give them greater authority.     Transformational leadership has the ability to generate a higher commitment to the company from its’ employees. I believe that Sam Walton, the Founder of Walmart had this ability. “Walmart as we know it today evolved from Sam Walton’s goals for great value and great customer service. “Mr. Sam,” as he was known, believed in leadership through service.     Peter Northouse defines Transformational leadership as the process whereby a person engages with others and creates a connection that raises the level of motivation and morality in the both the leader and the follower (Northouse, 2013. pg. 186). Being a transformative leader to me means you are a person who commits their self to a wholehearted role that builds potential positive changes in the group he/she is leading. The transformative leader is passionate about their work and ability to make others better and excited about their roles in their organization/company. In transformative leadership, the leaders flourish when they are able to both assist and empower members of their organization; this of course leads to positive change. As a transformative leader, they cannot be afraid to take risks and understand that without a change whether failure or success, there could be no chance for positive transformation.
