TRAIT THEORY OF LEADERSHIP

TRAIT THEORY
• The trait model of leadership is based on the characteristics of many leaders - both successful and unsuccessful - and is used to predict leadership effectiveness. The resulting lists of traits are then compared to those of potential leaders to assess their likelihood of success or failure.
• Trait theory of leadership differentiates leaders from non leaders by focusing on personal qualities and characteristics.
• Trait theory of leadership sought personality, social, physical and intellectual traits.
• Trait theory assumes that leaders are born.

Characteristic of Successful leaders
• Achievement drive: High level of effort, high levels of ambition, energy and initiative
• Leadership motivation: an intense desire to lead others to reach SHARED goals
• Honesty and integrity: trustworthy, reliable, and open
• Self-confidence: Belief in one’s self, ideas, and ability
• Cognitive ability: Capable of exercising good judgment, strong analytical abilities, and conceptually skilled
• Knowledge of business: Knowledge of industry and other technical matters
• Emotional Maturity: well adjusted, does not suffer from severe psychological disorders.

Traits are classified into five categories:
Intelligence
• Physical traits like age, height, weight, strength etc.
• Social status and experience
• Task Orientation
• Personality characteristics:
- Ambition and energy
-Desire to lead
-Honesty and integrity
-Self confidence
- Job relevant knowledge etc.

TRAIT LEADERS
• Trait theorists refers to people like Father of nation M.K. Gandhi, Indira Gandhi,
Margrat Thracher, Nelson Mandela,
Virgin Group CEO Richard Branson, Apple
Co-founder Steve Jobs, Ratan Tata of the
Tata Group, Azim Premji of Wipro,
Narayana Murthy of Infosys etc.

    Back in October of 2013, I toke this class and received a C+ now I’m taking it again, in 2013 under different circumstance I wasn’t prepared for this class, but this time around things are a little different. Things haven’t changed I’m choosing my school to write about while taking the course studies. Edith Robinson Christian Academy (ERCA) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is a unique private school. (ERCA) proudly uses the slogan, “Love lives here.” In the simplest of terms, this is what Edith Robinson Christian Academy offers the at-risk-youth of Fort Lauderdale, Florida—children, teens, and young adults who may not often hear that they are valued, believed in, and loved. Driven by a philosophy that you can never give up on a child, Edith Robinson Christian Academy staff actively seeks out youth who have been thrown out of school, are unable to reach their full potential in a traditional school or are barred from other programs. This passionate organization helps them change their lives—and realize their full potential. I’m currently the owner but in 2013 I was the owner, Principal, teacher, cafeteria (cook), transportation, etc. whatever it took believe me I did it. Well this school year I have a staff; Principal, five teacher, two cafeteria worker, one security, two transportation driver, and myself the Director of Schools. The grade levels we deal with are from K though 12. In 2013 I we had to pick a leadership theory that best fits your program. I’m to pick a minimum of three different leadership article from Grand Canyon University elibrary.
