Traffic Phenomenon of Singapore
Introduction
During exercise 1, our group have observed the traffic conditions on Clementi Avenue 6 from AYE into the road section in the video. At the same time, we measured the number of the vehicle on the road by 5 minutes interval, four lanes and different types of vehicles. We decided a dummy line on separate lane to count the number of vehicles as well as categorize the vehicles by six types as motorcycle, car, van, bus, goods truck and truck. Through the data processing after observation, we made some tables, bar and pie graphs to demonstrate the data clearly. And we can tell the different traffic conditions among different lanes and vehicles easily from those charts. The tables contain the detailed data of the different types of vehicles that passed the dummy line within 30 minutes. The bar graphs demonstrate traffic flow of separate types of vehicles with 5-minute interval in 30 minutes. The pie graphs show the percentage of different types of vehicles within 30 minutes. The arrangement of the lane number is showed as following picture.

Table | Lane No.1 | Time(min) | Motorcycle | Car | Van | Bus | Goods truck | Truck | 0:00-5:00 | 3 | 42 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 5:00-10:00 | 3 | 49 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 10:00-15:00 | 9 | 53 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 15:00-20:00 | 14 | 53 | 1 | 6 | 1 | 1 | 20:00-25:00 | 7 | 63 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 25:00-30:00 | 10 | 55 | 6 | 0 | 2 | 0 |

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SPEED MODEL USING MULTIPLE REGRESSION ANALYSIS Mako C. DIZON Undergraduate Student Department of Civil Engineering Polytechnic University of the Philippines 13 Bayabas St.Anthony Taytay, Rizal 1920 Email: makolet10@yahoo.com Lyvan G. DE PEDRO Undergraduate Student Department of Civil Engineering Polytechnic University of the Philippines Mandaluyong City Dr. Manuel M. MUHI Faculty Department of Civil Engineering Polytechnic University of the Philippines Sta. Mesa, Manila Email: manuel_muhi@yahoo.com Abstract: Pedestrian signal allocates the appropriate time for pedestrian to cross safely a place where vehicle and pedestrian conflict are great. This study intends to formulate a model that will be used in determining the pedestrian speed using the available data that can be found in an actual situation in a signalized crosswalk. Four crosswalks will be observed to gather necessary data to come up with an appropriate model that can be used in other studies with regards to pedestrians. Speed-Density relationship will also be observed to find out whether the considered crosswalk adheres to the basic concept of Speed-Density relationship that the Highway Capacity Manual stated. These data includes: pedestrian volume, pedestrian crossing time, crosswalk dimension and actual crossing cycle time. After a thorough research and experimentation, the researcher found out several factors that may affect the speed of the pedestrians and the researchers came to conclusion that it is not merely by density. The dimension of the crosswalk affect the speed in terms that when the length of the crosswalk is lengthened; the tendency is to increase their speed as not to be caught up by the movement of traffic. In the course of our research, we conclude that the presented variables are not enough to explain the variation on speed. The researchers had formulated a model to predict the pedestrian signal but due to its low coefficient of determination, the researchers…

Urban transportation system involves different types of public transport modes namely bus, minibus, CNG-autorickshaw, rickshaw, autotempu and recently the battery operated autorickshaw. Among all these transport modes rickshaw is characterized by slowest flow characteristics. As a service provider mode of public transport rickshaw is much expensive mode of transport especially for the lower and lower-middle urban passengers because of its undefined and uncontrolled fare system. Also the presence of non-motorized vehicles especially rickshaw in the traffic stream affects vehicular performance and reduces the actual capacities of highway facilities. These effects are severe at signalized intersections within the urban areas where there are frequent intersections[1]. Rahman M. M. (2003) studied that if the proportion of rickshaw in the mixed traffic stream is more than 50% at signalized urban intersection discharge rate of traffic reduces drastically as the proportion of rickshaws increases.…

There are many reasons for this problem. First reason is the fast increase of vehicles but the land area for traffic does not increase. Poor awareness of people is cause traffic jam, too. Everyone tries to find their own way. Last reason, the project of digging up road causes serious traffic jams. To reduce the problems the government have to develop the network of public transport such as metros, trams. It will decrease the number of vehicles. And we must increase land area devoted to traffic and divide lanes for cars, motorbikes and bicycles.…

When thinking about traffic, I’ve a funny imagination of circulatory system. We need circulatory system to pass nutrients, blood cells, hormones through the human body, so does with the traffic. Traffic is one of the most important thing that every countries must pay much concern. And traffic in Viet Nam, what we’ve done in 10 years? 1 Good and bad improvements We should talk about the good first: For 10 years, we completed some main roads contributing to the socio- economic development such as Ben Thuy,Thai Binh bridges, national road No1( highway)… Mountainous or rural transport in this period was also given much care of the government for new lands, upgrading the old lands, broadening alleys. Going along with the economic development, traffic in Viet Nam has a great jump that is surprising. We can easily realize the changes. Ten years ago, the traffic was not as busy as nowadays. Even in the craziest dream, I had never dreamt of riding a motorbike( at that time: having a motorbike is quite luxury). Now you can own a motorbike with a small amount of money; and if you have enough money, you can own a private car. Apparently, the life’s standard is going up, it is expressed by the number of automobile driven on the roads. But is it good or bad? Is it the sign of Viet Nam economic’s Wake Up. In fact, transport doesn’t go a step ahead to meet the development’s requirements of the national economy. The traffic can be a nightmare for visitors to Viet Nam for the first time. Believe it or not, there are transport rules but people don’t seem really interested in following them. Three or four people on one motorbike is a common sight, particularly with the young. Every day, there’re accidents we see and fear, which about 30 people die per day according to some data on traffic accidents. The traffic is worst during the rush hour when everyone is attempting to get to work or get home quickly. Some people ride their motorbikes on the pavement rather than…

By KRD Pravin Population explosion is a curse as well as a boon for India. It is the second biggest market of the world. It is a strength, but at the same time it causes a scarcity of infrastructure and results in other infrastructure related issues. Mumbai is one of the most populated cities in the world. In numbers, Mumbai is roughly one percent of the Indian market. Residents of Mumbai face many problems on a daily basis such as housing, costly health facilities, scarcity of open space, water supply, crowded public transport (local trains as well as busses) and heavy traffic on roads – especially during rush hours. The main contributing factor to these problems is the growing population. Figure 1: The Streets of Mumbai "We are the problem" and "we struggle ourselves" to find the solution(s). The paradox is that there are many opportunities available a huge human resource is needed. But this great resource of humans constitutes the underlying problem – an imbalance between infrastructure and head count. A measurement system is needed to gauge the impact of travel-related problems on "quality of life" since it is intangible. An approximate measurement system for transportation, therefore, is also recommended for the problem of overcrowding in trains and traffic congestion on roads. This system calculates the overall impact of overcrowding and transportation on…
