THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Our society today afflicted with many problems that young people are becoming juvenile delinquent. The term juvenile delinquency is a participation in illegal behaviour by a minor who falls under a statutory age limit and delinquency is often defined more narrowly in terms of a young person breaking the law. We will examine that delinquency and violent behaviour of a young person influence by playing of computer games, many young people nowadays expose to rapid increasing of violent computer games that leads them to addiction, emotional unstable, and lack of social interaction.
This idea came from the theory of social learning theory according to Albert Bandura that juveniles learn their behaviours from others with whom they interact in their social environment. Juvenile delinquency and violence may be learned from direct, face to face interaction or through observation of other person. Children learn their behaviours both positive and negative through imitating behaviour they observe in others. So it is possible that computer game affects the behaviour of a young person through imitating the characters that does her/him playing. For example a young person learned to shoot a gun by imitating the character that she/he saw on the computer games he played. Research showed that the exposure to the computer games produce changes to the people’s attitude and behaviour, this is an important effect to the attitude change and that could be the effect of aggressive behaviour.

The video games have been a source of entertainment for many over the past few years and over the years its consumers are growing in number. It is a source of digital entertainment and does not trigger violent behavior or the violent crimes. It is not a new trend anymore as the games have been around for as early as the 1990s. Parents and guardians strongly believe that most games have violent content thus prohibit their children from playing as they believe it might make them violent in nature, and also drive them to commit crimes. These video games are mainly designed and distributed from countries such as USA, Canada and Japan. Controversies started from those countries where parents even demanded the ban of selling of video games to its younger consumers. Parents and researchers have suggested that some of the games are far too violent and they have already begun to claim that the government should regulate the sale of these games in order to protect the children. However, results produced by many researchers produce otherwise. Moreover, the forceful plan by the government is a reaction to an exaggeration of the effects violent video games and these controversies are unfounded. For over the decades ever since 1994, starting with ‘Mortal Combat’ to ‘Night Trap’, the community has become concerned with the depth of physical conflict and gore visualized on these games. This has drastically led the industries to have their own rating classification as ‘ESRB’- Entertainment Software Rating Board. The realistic graphics of upcoming modern games have only helped the anti-gamers to defend their arguments. Researches show that most the crimes committed by teenagers are the result of bad parenting and not video games, also dangerous surroundings and the absence of gun possession laws.…

“If video games do increase violent tendencies outside the laboratory, the explosion of gaming over the past decade from 3.2 billion in sales in 1995 to $7 billion in 2003, according to industry figures, would suggest a parallel trend in youth violence. Instead, youth violence has been decreasing.” (Hoerrner 49). A video game is a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television screen or display. Violence is behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Some video games have violent and mature content in them. People claim that the violence in video games can cause aggression in people. Others claim that the violence in video games has nothing to do with aggression in people. It is also argued that violence in video games has nothing to do with the rage already existing inside of people. Video games do not cause violence because gamers understand that video games are not real, that video games release daily frustration and are inspiring.…

As people play violent video games, it influences bad behavior in the player because when you play these games, you control the person who causes the crimes, shoot and kill your enemy, whether it is a criminal or policeman depending on the game you are playing. Since you are playing the game, you feel more connected with your character in the game and it may affect you in the real world. This is proved according to the article Computer Games Can Rot Your Brain. According to it, “researchers have shown that playing or watching violent video games has led to alcohol consumption, destruction of property and other bad behavior. Video games can also lead to stealing of items, mainly vehicles.” Although the article says that, Akemi, a long term gamer now 22 years old, says otherwise. He says “I have been playing games since I was at least 7, I have no criminal record. I have good grades and have often been caught playing well into the night (that is, 4 hours or more).” Even though Akemi has no criminal record, Brad Bushman, a scientist that has been studying the effects of violent games on people says “aggressive behavior may appear not as criminal activity or physical violence but in more subtle ways in ways people react to or interact with…

It is, therefore, unfair, and biased claiming video games; a recent addition to society lead to juvenile crime (Ferguson, 2007).
