Traffic jams is one of the major problems most cities around the world face, especially in developing regions. Everyday, many citizens spend hours stuck in traffic in the city to commute to their work place or school. As a result, this is beginning to become a complex problem to most countries. This essay will examine the causes of traffic jams that occur in most cities.
First of all, the primary cause for traffic jams is the poorly planned road system. Before a government decides to build a new highway or a new road, they should analyze and ensure that what they are planning to build would be beneficial to the citizens. Most of the time, the government will come up with a new project without analyzing the situation or problem properly. In addition, sometimes planners are not able to keep up with the rapid expansion of the population. Consequently, instead of solving the traffic jam problem, it has become worst.
Besides that, the unreliability of public transport infrastructure is another contributing factor to traffic jam. If the public transports provided by the government were more reliable and efficient, there would be a decrease on the dependence of private vehicles, which means lesser vehicles on the road during peak hours. In addition, I think the government should provide proper access walkways to connect pedestrians to a source of public transport.
The third and most significant cause of traffic jam is an increase in the number of cars on the road. The most basic explanation is that the number of drivers who are trying to use the same road is so high that it goes beyond the road's capacity to handle cars. In other words, too many cars in one place caused traffic jams. Moreover, cars are more affordable nowadays due to the rapid economic growth, which results in the increase in the number of vehicles on the road.
