Traditional Medicine Vs Modern Medicine Essay
It is undisputable fact that medicine is very important to people because it helps us to maintain or restore our health prevent of disease, injury and other damages. According to Meriam Webster dictionary, medicine can be defined as a substance that is used in treating disease or relieving pain and that is usually in the form of pill or a liquid. There are two type of medicine that we need to know which are modern and traditional medicine. Modern and traditional medicine can be compared and contrast in three criteria, which are price, substances and effect.
Generally, modern medicine is more expensive than traditional medicine because in my own word modern medicine needs a specific research and experiment and all those things are very pricey (Hamamudin, 2015). Furthermore, the price …show more content…
The product of modern substance are more highly dangerous if it is overdose and will gives you a long-term effects that can cause harmful to other part of the body. In simple word, modern medicine have its side effects to human if does not use wisely. I’m not saying that traditional medicine does not have its side effect. It does, but the effects not as bad as modern medicine can cause. Most of the time, traditional medicine does not cause a long-term side effects, it is only for short-term and maybe for three to four years and not the same as chemical substance in modern medicine that will last in your body forever. It is estimated that over 70% of West Africans rely on traditional medicine for treatment of both communicable and non-communicable diseases (Kofi, 2012).
