Morong, Bataan
Brief History of Morong Bataan
Morong was originally known as “Bayandati”, believed to the settlement located in Nagbalayong.
Due to the scarcity of land available for cultivation, residents migrated to adjacent areas where wider lands can be found. When the Spaniards arrived to this place in 1578 the residents were elusive and distant to newcomers. The Spaniards observed that people called “Moros’ engaged in trade with the residents, hence this place was called Moron. Moron together with Bagac of Bataan up to Maragondon in Cavite became part of the Corrigimento de Mariveles that was administered by the Franciscan friars. Pampanga annexed the remaining towns of Bataan, which were then under the administration of the Dominicans. Later in 1674, Governor General Manuel Arandia annexed Moron and eleven other municipalities under the province of Bataan. On June 10, 1955, Moron was renamed Morong by Bataan representative Jose R. Nuguid by virtue of Republic Act No. 1249 which was enacted by the Batasan Pambansa. The move was made because the municipality’s former name was thought to mean “immature or “unintelligent” person.
The town of Morong was originally known as "Bayandati" which was within the jurisdiction of Nagbalayong. Because the land to be cultivated is too small, the people decided to transfer to other places where there is big and wide land to cultivate. When the Spaniards came to the Philippines, some of them arrived at this place. Morong was established by the Franciscan friars in 1578.

Every town/municipality’s name in the province of Cebu is connoted with its roots or history. Magellan, however, failed to successfully claim the island for the crown of Spain, having been killed by Lapu-Lapu, a king in Mactan Island on April 27, 1521 in the Battle of Mactan. On April 27, 1565, Spain colonized the area with the arrival of Spanish explorers led by Miguel López de Legazpi, together with Augustinian friar Andrés de Urdaneta, sailing from Mexico, arrived in Cebu. The Spaniards established settlements, trade flourished and renamed the city on January 1, 1571, from San Miguel to Villa del Santísimo Nombre de Jesús. During this six year period of exploration and settlements by the Spaniards, Cebu City was the capital of the Spanish East Indies. In 1901, the city was governed by the United States for a brief period, however it attained the status of a charter city in 1936 and was governed independently by Filipino politicians.…

    History Of Ilocos

Before the coming of the Spaniards, the coastal plains in northwestern Luzon, stretching from Bangui (Ilocos Norte) in the north to Namacpacan (Luna, La Union) in the south, were as a whole known as a progressive region called the Ylokos. This region lies in between the China Sea in the west and Northern Cordilleras on the east. The inhabitants built their villages near the small bays on coves called “looc” in the dialect. These coastal inhabitants were referred to as “Ylocos” which literally meant “from the lowlands”. The entire region was then called by the ancient name “Samtoy” from “sao ditoy” which in Ilokano mean “our dialect”. The region was later called by the Spaniards as “Ylocos” or “Ilocos” and its people “Ilocanos”. The Ilocos Region was already a thriving, fairly advanced cluster of towns and settlements familiar to Chinese, Japanese and Malay traders when the Spaniard explorer Don Juan de Salcedo and members of his expedition arrived in Vigan on July 1574. Forthwith, they made Cabigbigaan (Bigan), the heart of the Ylokos settlement their headquarters which Salcedo called “Villa Fernandina” and which eventually gained fame as the “Intramuros of Ilocandia”. Salcedo declared the whole Northern Luzon as an encomienda. Subsequently, he became the encomendero of Vigan and Lieutenant Governor of the Ylokos until his death in March 11, 1576. Augustinian missionaries joined the military forces in conquering the region through evangelization. They established parishes and built churches that still stand today. Three centuries later, Vigan became the seat of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. A royal decree of February 2, 1818 separated Ilocos Norte from Ilocos Sur, the latter to include the northern part of La Union (as far as Namacpacan, now Luna) and all of what is now the province of Abra. The sub-provinces of Lepanto and Amburayan in Mt. Province were annexed to Ilocos Sur. The passage of Act 2683 by the Philippine Legislature in March…

The Portuguese navigator and explorer Ferdinand Magellan headed the first Spanish foray to the Philippines when he made landfall on Cebu in March 1521; a short time later he met an untimely death on the nearby island of Mactan. After King Philip II (for whom the islands are named) had dispatched three further expeditions that ended in disaster, he sent out Miguel López de Legazpi, who established the first permanent Spanish settlement, in Cebu, in 1565. The Spanish city of Manila was founded in 1571, and by the end of the 16th century most of the coastal and lowland areas from Luzon to northern Mindanao were under Spanish control. Friars marched with soldiers and soon accomplished the nominal conversion to Roman Catholicism of all the local people under Spanish administration. But the Muslims of Mindanao and Sulu, whom the Spanish called Moros, were never completely subdued by Spain.…
