Tom Robinson Trial
In the story, to kill a Mockingbird, a man named Tom Robinson who is

Accused of being guilty during the trial. Many characters could be picked in the story, to kill a

Mockingbird, but Tom Robinson stood out the most to me. Tom Robinson was born in Maycomb,

Alabama in 1935, he was 25 years old before death. I am going to explain how Tom Robinson acts as a

mocking bird and why he deserves to be the mockingbird of the story.

In the trial of Tom Robinson. There’s a quote that stands out in the case, pg. 220("There's

Something in our world that makes men loses their heads, they couldn't be fair if they tried. In

Our courts, when it’s a white man’s word against a black man’s, the white man always win.

They're ugly, but those are

This shows that

Tom Robinson is not in shape of hurting anybody, because while worrying about how

he raped Mayella or not, his arm is crippled and would probably would not like to be

in this situation right now, and would like to live the life that he still has.

Furthermore, As I finish the case of Tom Robinson and by explaining how he is

the Mockingbird, there is another quote that contributes of how it relates to a

Mockingbird, Pg.254( ”His left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right, and hung

dead at his side. It ended in a small shriveled hand, and from as far away as the balcony I could

see that it was no use to him”).The one who said this quote was Revered Sykes, he was

saying this quote because of how Tom Robinson is severely crippled and his arm has

no use, Tom Robinson acts as a Mockingbird because of how his lifestyle and how he

lives life is very hard for him, but he is black and in the town of Maycomb where

discrimination was a big thing and how they treated him wasn’t equal in the trial of the

court, if he was white maybe the tables would have turned.

Overall, Tom Robinson is the mockingbird out of the other characters. I feel like he

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I stand before you as a person, defending a person. A person that I believe to be innocent. Tom Robinson would pass Mayella Ewells house on his way to the fields everyday, to help her out with things around the house. This dose not make him guilty. Tom is a good man. He would never hurt a fly. In fact his owner made a statement that "hes never caused a speck of trouble." My first point of evidence has to do with DNA and blood. Tom Robinson has type AB blood, which was not found at the scene. Mr. Ewell has type O blood, which was found on Maylella's dress. Mayella Has Type B blood, which was found on Mr. Ewells overalls. This indicates that Tom's blood was nowhere to be found at the scene. If he had raped her, there would be a struggle, in which case, Toms blood should be there.…

I tend to my garden as I watch several cars drive along my street back to their homes. Tom Robinson’s trial must be over. Before the trial even started, I predicted that the verdict would be guilty. When I saw Jem, Scout, and Dill arrive back at their house with long faces, my prediction was confirmed. It is still upsetting for me to hear that another innocent black man’s life was ruined because of the way white people treat them. I did not attend the trial; I do not wish to see an innocent person on trial for their life. I take off my gardening gloves and head inside. As I wash my hands, I see the children looking very upset and confused. I decide to make them chocolate cakes to help to cheer them up. They must be extremely confused and disappointed about the verdict of the trial. They are too young to completely understand our unfair society.…

Tom Robinson is also a mockingbird, who, through trying to help a white lady, Mayella Ewell, sparks a great outrage in Maycomb County. He is wrongly accused of raping her, and blindly accused because of the racism in Maycomb. Many turn a blind eye towards his innocence, and don't have the courage to stand up for values. Atticus is called to defend Tom, and this lawyer is the only person fit to get rid of the…

One reason may be that she is afraid of her father, Robert E. Lee Ewell. While questioning all three witnesses, it is found that Mr. Ewell may have been the one to hit Mayella. During Mr. Ewells testimony, we learn he writes with his left hand. This means his left hand is dominant, and it’s possible for him to have hit Mayella’s right side easily. He also would have a supposed reason. According to Tom Robinson, he saw Mayella kiss him. This would’ve induced anger and he is already known to not be tolerable when he is drinking. Another reason Mayella may be afraid of him is based on his past activity. Not only does he drink away their money, but he also breaks laws. This shows his overall character, and Mayella even claims that he is not good to be around when drunk. This shows that she could easily be afraid of him based on his actions and character. Another reason Mayella may lie is because she wants to cover up her actions towards Tom Robinson. As Atticus claims, “Tom Robinson was a daily reminder of what she did. What did she do? She tempted a negro” (Lee 272). She already knew Tom from the many odd jobs she’d have him do. Mayella would talk to him while he did such jobs. This shows she may have already had some feeling for him. She also, according to Tom during the trial, hit on him. She first hugged him while he was getting something for her, and then Mayella kissed him as her father looked in. Needing an excuse, Mayella claimed Tom raped her in order to cover her social crime. In conclusion, Mayella lied in the trial because she was afraid of her father and the social consequences of kissing a black…

The book, To Kill a Mockingbird, has a very strong meaning which includes racism and the respect that you should have for other people. In the book, Tom Robinson is compared to a mockingbird many times in the book. Tom Robinson was an African American male who was accused of raping a white woman, when in reality, he was innocent, just like a mockingbird. Also, when Bob Ewell attacks Jem and Scout, Boo Radley saves the children by stabbing Bob Ewell in the ribs with a kitchen knife.…
