He was a nice person who spread happiness and inspiration around him. “Happiness only real when shared” (Chris 189), since Chris was alone for a long time, he seems to realized eventually that happiness only can be felt among other people. In my opinion, I believe that humans are a social being, which means that we need to share our moment of happiness with other people in order to feel the real

Krakauer in the start of the book depicts Chris as insightful and mindful, “In May 1990, Chris graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, where he’d been a columnist, and editor of, the student newspaper, The Emory Wheel, and had distinguished himself as a history and anthropology major with a 3.72 grade- point average.”(Krakauer 20). With this incorporated into the book it passes on that Chris is exceptionally shrewd and can stand his ground. He additionally shows Chris' certainty when he includes, “No thanks anyway, I’ll be fine with what I’ve got.” (Krakauer 6). In the meantime he clarifies how he is woefully ill-equipped to live in the wild and how he is somewhat…

Chris, who called himself Alexander Supertramp, died at 24 years old. It may seem short, but during his last to years he became a real-life myth, a true romantic. He set out on his journey to Alaska just after graduating college. Despite his academic success, it was said by his peers that he "marched to the beat of a different drummer". He refused to find a well-paid job, get a house and settle down after graduation, choosing instead to pursue his dream of travelling to…

In the Tolstoy's version of the story their was only three main people for this story, but in the Jon Muth's version there is four main animals. For the first question of what we think about the question of who is the most person, I was going to say that the person you are with at that time should feel important and you can make them feel like you care, they should feel comfortable talking to you. In both stories they have the same question they wondered and they all got answered the same way. Both of the stories share the same themes and morals but they were expressed in their own way, because in one story their were animals and the other story was people. I would have talked more about how I felt about the three questions they asked, because…

This quote shows that chris was not happy in the woods. He was out there for so long that he didn't realize how alone he was until he met his end. This quote is important because it shows that chris realized that he can't be alone in the woods like he wanted, and he can't keep pushing people away like he did. This evidence connects to the real world because people think that they have to surround themselves with people to feel happy, in Chris’s case he thought the opposite and in the end regretted…

It was all about the adrenaline rush for Chris and he didn’t care if it meant his death as long as he felt alive beforehand. His life had become something he could no longer suffer through quietly, so he decided to extricate himself from the horror his life had transformed into and created a whole new life and identity as Alexander Supertramp: a wanderer with no ties to society, no social obligations, and most importantly no expectations to be something he could force himself to…

He had very strong beliefs along with the determination to let nothing stop him in his path. Chris set out to live in the Alaskan wilderness for a couple of weeks and it proved to be more than he could handle. His resources became scarce and he feared for his own life. He ended up leaving an S.O.S note on the door of the bus he was living in and it read “Injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here, I am all alone, this is no joke (Krakauer 12).” His journey to Alaska proved to be fatal and a vast amount of theories began to spread across the media about how Chris died. Everyone has built an opinion about Chris McCandless, some say he’s crazy and ignorant and others say he’s bright and heroic. Shaun Callarman, a native Alaskan, didn’t admire him at all for his courage or his noble ideas. He felt that Chris McCandless was “Bright and ignorant at the same time,” and that “He had no common sense and no business going to Alaska with his romantic silliness.” I disagree with Shaun’s opinion to a certain extent because I feel that Chris was both foolish and noble when he began his journey to Alaska. Chris sought out to find himself and he let nothing stand in his path, but he wasn’t fully prepared for the…

“Into the Wild Debunked” attacks Jon Krakauer’s claims of Chris dying from moldy seeds of a potato plant. In fact, no part of the wild potato plant is toxic. There is no recorded deaths from being poisoned by this plant. In order for people to believe the book Into the Wild Krakauer neglects to mention Chris had carried money, a map, and his real identification. There are also strong claims suggesting he died of starvation. 113 days without adequate food, it’s impossible to sustain life. Lastly, Chris may have suffered a serious shoulder dislocation. From his popular photo where he was sitting/leaning on the bus it looks like he’s injured.…

When one person is left alone for a long period of time, they think. It’s inevitable. They think about memories, regrets, potential outcomes, past decisions. In Chris McCandless journey, he has had a lot of time to think to himself. If McCandless never left to live a nomadic lifestyle, to ponder life's greatest wonders in solitude, that same man would never have lived the joyous life he did. The events that took place on his two year journey ultimately left McCandless as a changed man for the…

All of our lives we have been taught to conform to society. We are told to follow what the people before us have done and not to stray from tradition. In Leo Tolstoy’s The Three Hermits he tells the story of three hermits who live on a an island. One day the Archbishop asked about the island and and the three hermits that lived there because he heard they were godly men. When the Archbishop asked to go to the island the captain of the ship attempts to change his mind by saying, "the old men are not worth your pains." Even after hearing the stories from the crew and captain, the Archbishop still insists on going to see the three hermits. Once he arrives, he tries to teach the men the Lord’s Prayer so that they may worship the Lord properly. The Archbishop returns to the boat and the crew sails away, but the three hermits run on the water up to the boat saying that they have forgotten the prayer. The Archbishop replies, “Your own prayer will reach the Lord, men of God. It is not for me to teach you. Pray for us sinners.”…

Many people have had a mid-life crisis and during this time many people have asked this question what is the meaning of life. Leo Tolstoy too had a mid-life crisis and asked that very same question.
