Toefl Sample Essay
A good sense of humor is one of the most important qualities of a person. Do you agree or disagree?

It is a well known fact that a good sense of humor is an ability. This ability exists in some people while lack in others. It's a controversial issue whether sense of humor is one of the most important human qualities or not. As far as I am concerned, a good sense of humor is vital and necessary for every person.

To begin with, a good sense of humor shows the person's capacity to understand facts or apprehend people’s reactions and thinking. As good apprehension skills are related to intellegence, a good sense of humor is the indicator of a person's intelligence. Latest scientific researchs have showed that intelligence of a person is directly proportional with the level of his/her sense of humor.

In addition, a person who has a good sense of humor is able to amuse and entertain other people. It is obvious that funny and entertaining people are appreciated and loved by almost everyone in the society more than others who don’t possess this ability. In every condition, they are given more value and are accepted by others in the society easier. Take my friend John as an example. He is an angry and not easy-going person but everybody loves him due to his ability to make them laugh.

Moreover, a person who doesn't have enough sense of humor will not able to understand the jokes and funny moments in a group of friends. Can you imagine someone who stays regardless while others are laughing? This would occur some serious problems such as being rejected from the group and seeming to be anti-social or considered to be antipathic. For instance, when I was a child I could not be able to understand the jokes of teenagers. Thus they had never accepted me to their group.

To sum up a good sense of humor is significantly one of the most important features of human. The reasons for my decision are stated above. There is an old saying: The one who cannot make laugh

According to actual definition, humor is defined by mood and state of mind. This is plausible because humor isn’t understandable unless you are conscious about the relevance. On that same note, a movie pertaining to humor needs to be careful about what it portrays. If you stick with one type of humor; there is the off-chance of losing appeal and comedic value for the vast majority. The humor induced film, DeadPool, is relatively a good comedy; but has some obvious drawbacks by only attracting those who like crude humor. Making this a comedy that only a few will enjoy.…

“Humor appear’s to help people’s psychological and physical well being.” It says in Peter McGraw’s essay “The Importance of Humor Research.” It has been proven that it is good for your body to react in such a way to a funny situation but the psychological portion of it is hard to understand. When someone laughs, endorphins are released from the brain and are sent throughout the body creating the feeling of pleasure. It is a healthy alternative to any negative situation, whether it be negative or awkward it can be made easier with a joke here or…

In our daily life, we all live with humor. Humor is a very essential part of our life. Nevertheless everyone doesn’t perceive humor in the same way. Man and woman have different views toward humor. That’s why some people say that humor has a connection with gender. In his article Christopher Hitchens has mentioned various reasons for women not being as funny as men. I believe Hitchers has captured most of the fundamental truths about humor and gender. Men are funnier than women because they want to be superior with no regard of the consequences, unlike women who tend to be fair and analyze the consequences of a joke before laughing at it.…

Vonnegut prescribes laughter for all things, for without laughter life would seem a lot more painful. “Humor is a way of holding off how awful life can be, to protect yourself,” states Vonnegut (129.) To go on and live life you need to be able to laugh at your mistakes, just as to continue believing in a political system you need to be able to laugh at its faults. He also believes that at some point humor becomes less of a shield against the harsh truth of life and politics. He says, “Finally, you get just too tired, and the news is too awful, and humor doesn’t work anymore” (129.) It would seem with age the seriousness of things out-weighs the humor that can be found in them.…

He believes humorists are allowed by society to say things that others won’t or do not want to express, thus serving a vital role in a functioning society.…
