To Kill a Mockingbird and Macbeth: Comparing the Characters of Bob Ewell and Macbeth

“Whoever does wrong, wrongs himself” In other words, when someone does something wrong it back fires and they end up hurting themselves. I agree with the above quote from personal experiences and from factual evidence I have found. Bob Ewell, from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird and Macbeth, from Shakespeare’s play Macbeth demonstrate that by doing wrong it only hurts yourself in the end. Through the use of characterization, Shakespeare illustrates that by doing wrong only comes back to negatively affect you. Macbeth is a brave and loyal soldier. While journeying home from a battle, he has an encounter with 3 witches. Who happen to fill his head with their prediction of him one day becoming king. With his ambition created from these dreams he sets off and kills the king. However, he acts before thinking and is terribly affect. He becomes paranoid and no longer sleeps nor does he trust anyone. He went from being a man with everything to a king with a suicidal wife, no friends and a life full of guilt. Until, he meets death itself; proving that by doing wrong you only hurt yourself. Also using characterization, To Kill a Mocking Bird’s, Bob Ewell, is another great example of someone who has done wrong and in return suffers for it. He is a father to many children and isn’t a very good one. His oldest daughter falsely accuses a black man, named Tom, of rape at a time when racism is at a high. Bob takes this innocent man to court where it is obvious on who will win the case but Tom and his brilliant lawyer, Atticus, fight till the end to expose the truth. Throughout the trial the citizens of Maycomb come to realize the real Bob Ewell; who is an abusive father sexually and physically, a drunk, and a racist. Tom is sentenced to jail. While Bob has a new reputation with the town that leads him to get drunk an attempt to kill Atticus’s children but ends up getting himself killed. The series of events that
