In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Lee shows that if you are an individual, you have a responsibility to protect the innocent that are in need. Lee writes the book through the view of a character named Scout. Scout finds out that individuals have a responsibility to protect the innocent from other characters in the book. Scout learns from Mr. Arthur Radley “boo”, Atticus Finch, and Mr. Heck Tate. Arthur was a neighbor to the people of Maycomb who never really came out of his house, that and the fact that his dad kept him locked away in there. Atticus is Jem and Scout’s father who took a case in which he knew he would never win but he still thought it was worth a shot. Finally Mr. Heck Tate, Heck is the sheriff of Maycomb and what he says goes.
Harper Lee explains the fire in chapter 8 page 94, “Miss Maudie’s tin roof quelled the flames. Roaring, the house collapsed; fire gushed everywhere, followed by a flurry of blankets from men on top of the adjacent houses, beating out sparks and burning chunks of wood.” In this quote it is talking about the fire at Miss Maudie’s house, the whole neighborhood was there including Arthur Radley. Scout was watching the fire from the sidelines and she was jumping around from being cold and without realizing it, Arthur put a blanket around her. Arthur as an individual took responsibility and put a blanket around scout when she need help. Not everyone wants to take responsibility but arthur did and it was the right thing to do. Arthur Radley protected jem and scout from Bob Ewell. Bob was trying to kill Jem and Scout and Arthur pushed him off of the kids, hence my previous thoughts, saving Jem and Scouts lives. "Shuffle foot had not stopped with us this time. His trousers swished softly and steadily. Then they stopped. He was running, running toward us with no child's steps. 'Run, Scout! Run! Run!' Jem screamed. I took one giant step and found myself reeling: my arms useless, in the dark, I could not keep my balance. 'Jem, Jem, help me, Jem!'" Page 261. In the end Bob broke Jem’s arm and Bob died from falling on his knife. Arthur carried Jem back to the house and gave him to Atticus. Dun Dun Dunahh.

Harper Lee writes in To Kill A Mockingbird, about a man named Mr. Heck Tate. Heck is the sheriff of Maycomb County and he does what he thinks is right. "I'm not a very good man, sir, but I am sheriff of Maycomb County. Lived in this town all my life an' I'm goin' on forty-three years old. Know everything that's happened here since before I was born. There's a black boy dead for no reason, and the man responsible for it's dead. Let the dead bury the dead this time, Mr. Finch. Let the dead bury the dead." Heck is saying that jem didn't kill Bob Ewell. He is also saying that Bob Ewell Practically killed Tom so let the dead bury the dead.

In conclusion with people doing what is right in this world, it becomes a better place. If you just stand there and let the innocent down then you're just contributing to ruining our world as we know it.
