How to become a Veterinarian:
Steps needed to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine
In order to become a Veterinarian, one must go through a series of steps. Meanwhile, the main point is to graduate specializing in Veterinary Medicine. If you want to take the correct path in becoming a Vet, the following information is essential to your success. The first steps in preparation to become a Veterinarian begin in High School. Many recourses, as well as my Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Threat, suggests that you take all courses in Math, Chemistry, Biology, and physic courses that are available in High school; as they will become very handy when selecting your College classes . AP and Honors courses are highly recommended.
There are 28 veterinary schools accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in the U.S. Each year nearly 6000 applicants compete for approximately 2400 openings. In other words, it is very competitive to gain admission to a veterinary school. Admission requirements for veterinary schools have many things in common; however the specific requirements may vary among schools. It is therefore advisable to become familiar with the entrance requirements early in your career as this may affect course selection especially after your first year of college. With this being said... again, the AP and Honors courses along with a high Grade Point Average will only boost your chances and put you in the front lines when getting into the Veterinary School.
College An undergraduate degree in a related science or medical field should be completed. Any pre-veterinary programs, if offered, should be taken advantage of. With a Veterinary School in mind, keeping track of specifically what that certain school asks for is very helpful.
