Executive summary

This report is a study of an employee’s problematic situation at work. The situation was analysed using the session 3, book 2 of the B120. The analysis identified that lack of “induction and socialisation” was a major factor, and also identified some potential solutions. There are also websites that explain in further detail the concepts used.

1.0 Problem analysis and solution 2.1 In June 2009 I started a new job with a debt management company in a telesales cold calling role. It was a huge office of over 150 people therefore it was a very fast paced environment, it was also very modern and clean and seemed a great place to work. After a few weeks I felt as if I was working alone, I had never been approached by or had a conversation with anyone which not only made my days long I also felt as I had no help or adequate training. This of course affected my work I felt lost and it was not long before my low sales numbers was noticed by my superiors. It was around 5 weeks in when I started to receive real pressure

The Bistro chains décor and menu are based on the original café opened in 1989 and are outdated. Although this image could be keeping the trade from your loyal older customers, they tend to visit less frequently and don’t have as much money to spend as mentioned in the case study. To appeal to younger and new customers, I would suggest modernising the appearance and updating the menu.…

The Lodge Bistro Chain has grown from a single café in 1989 to a chain of 25 identical restaurants across the south of England. These restaurants have been tightly controlled to ensure Managers conform to the single vision of the CEO Joyce Lodge. In 2010, Patricia Lodge took over as CEO, and responded to external pressures that were threatening the business by giving each manager more autonomy. This has not given the desired result.…

In this case, Miller’s problem was his job satisfaction, including two categories hygiene and motivation. Miller was satisfied with his old position because he was proficient in operating two machines at the same time. He has worked 27 years for this firm and expected ten more years work before he retired. However, Miller became dissatisfied with the change in his job. First of all, Miller held a prejudice to a new consultant who brought a “nonsense” reform to the company and “knew nothing”. Secondly, Miller lacked motivation after the change of enriched work included operating machines, checking qualities, getting supplies, and delivering tasks. Miller felt he was underpaid, because he did more tasks without any raise in payment or fringe benefits. Eventually, Miller thought he should quit his present job because of the “improvement of productivity”.…

In summary, this report details the problems encountered with a member of staff working under my management whose attendance standards and working practices had started to slip. The session used was session 4 of Book 2 B120. Despite an appraisal system being in place and frequent discussions being had with the employee his attitude was impacting upon the other members of staff in the department. Using the notes from Book 2 session 4 the problem concepts observed are that no clear instructions had been set and any monitoring system utilised fully to best effect. The recommendations to overcome the issues would have been a structured meeting with the individual followed by better monitoring and reward/praise on follow-up over a monthly or weekly interval. Further support and training for the Manager in charge of the department would have lessened the impact on the whole department.…
