Analyzing “Titanic” from an Industrial Standpoint
The movie shows us that Titanic passenger liner was the biggest existing ship and the largest ship every built. If other ships were designed to be flagships of fleets, the Titanic was able to stand out and became dominant putting its rivalries to the lower pedestal because it offered passengers luxury and comfort all throughout the voyage. And it is of a universal truth that passengers would love to travel when they are offered with comfort and extravagance. The captain of the ship even believed that the sink is unsinkable, and even God is not able to sink the ship. His being perfectionist gave him the opportunity to be nominated for six Academy Awards. Further, Cameron's perfectionist was very evident in his film "Titanic" which won 11 Academy Awards, including best picture and best director. He even received three Oscars for the said film (Tiden). He directed, wrote, produced and co-edited the said film. Pamela Easley was an associate producer, with Al Giddings, Grant Hill, and Sharon Mann as co-producers (IMDb). Jon Landau and Rae Sanchini were producer and executive producer respectively (IMDb). To Cameron, every detail of what he has written is important as these details wonderfully weave every event of the movie. Hypotheses tell us that Titanic was doomed even from the start because of how it was designed (History). History mentions that the ship had 15 watertight with electric doors. With its several compartments, it is difficult to sink the said ship even if water would rush inside because even if the water does, the watertight compartments are designed to stop the water from sinking because the water has to fill all the watertight compartments. However, even though the biggest ship had 15 watertight compartments, water spilled from one compartment into another which defeated its very purpose (History). Another thing is that the loss of numerous lives was due to the fact that there were only few lifeboats which could have saved thousands of the ship’s passengers. According to History, there were only 16 boats that could accommodate 1, 178 people. Titanic could carry 2, 435 passengers when it is full, and a crew of 900 bring her capacity to more than 3, 300 people (History). Even though all of the lifeboats were loaded to its fullest capacity during the crisis, there were only one-third seats available for the passengers on board (History).
