English as a Second Language I (Beginner)

2. Program Description
The Regil Institute’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Iprogram is designed to help those that know little to no English. This course will introduce thestudent to thebasic structure and vocabulary of the English language. It will help teach the student how to read, write, and speak English correctly. The class also teaches language skills needed in the workplace and in social settings. 3. Competencies
The successful student will be able to show an effective understanding of the English language by demonstrating their comprehension skills,correct pronunciation of the English language, and proper use of words written in a sentence.

4. Prerequisites for Enrollment
Students mustbe at least 18 years old before start of program.
Students must take assessment test before start of program.

8. Instructional Strategies
The textbook used will combine both pictures and words to help increase an understanding for the student. Reading and writing are included in each lesson plan, as well as numerous activities for practice, but listening and speaking are given priority in the teaching lessons.The use of flashcards and pictures will also aid in the understanding of the lesson plan. Daily reviews and homework given every night will help to strengthen what the student has learned. 9. Equipment and Supplies

10. Evaluation
Students will be evaluated daily to insure that they are getting an understanding of the lesson plan.

11. Enrollment
There will be approximately 10-15 students enrolled in the ESL program. The program consists of 7 weeks.Upon completion of class, students are eligible to attend another class, but continuation will not occur automatically. Continuation depends upon the student’s level of English proficiency and teacher's assessment of the student’s progress.
