Three Men In The Pardoner's Tale
Geoffrey Chaucer whom was the considered the greatest English poet of his time wrote the Canterbury Tales, which is a collection of stories, between 1387 and 1400. The Canterbury Tales were written during the time the black plague, or better known as the black death was spreading across the eastern hemisphere. The one part of the collection that we are looking at is called "Pardoner's Tale." The story is about three men who become very wealthy, and portray each other for the others wealth. Will the men figure out a way to handle having a lot of money or are the going to start killing each other? The three men come from a poor working class and are just hanging on to everything they have. The three men who are of different ages, do their everyday thing; drinking, gambling, and flirting until a pardoner comes into the bar and starts to talk with them. The men see a funeral occurring and tell the Pardoner about the death and think of their friend that was killed by a man the town calls Death. These men make a pack and say they want to go out and kill Death not knowing who he is, what he looks like, or where he is hidden. These men begin their journey by checking for

The men cannot believe their eyes. They forget about the death of their friend and think about how lucky they are. They make a plan to take the gold away at night when nobody can see them. They figure out who is going to take the gold by pulling sticks, whomever has the shortest stick has to go get the gold. While the one friend is gone, the other two make a pack to kill the other one, so they can get more money for themselves. The one man who went to receive the gold is thinking of a plan much better than his friends. He thought instead of taking the fold back to his friends he would poison them that way he can get the gold all to himself. Before he leaves to get the gold he mixes up a poison to kill
