Threat of Technology
Technology is a Threat, but Also a Necessity 50 years ago, computers were the size of an entire room. Today, a computer can fit inside a backpack or even the back pocket of your jeans. Over the years, technology has been greatly improved affecting the lives of all people. Technology has changed the way people socialize and perform their daily activities. Technology is one of the main driving forces of the future. Technology has enhanced the quality of life for humans. There are many different views of technology. Many argue that technology has made life less complex. Others argue that technology is harmful to the civilization of mankind. Technology has impacted mankind by improving their lives, threatening human livelihood, and by hindering social contact. Technology has modified humans by making their lives more convenient in their fast and busy lives. Technology plays a major role in every aspect of human life. Technology is much needed to uncomplicate peoples’ lives so that they can perform their daily issues rapidly and easily. The story “There Will Be Soft Rains” by Rad Bradbury illustrates the privilege of having technology. In the story, the computer house stated the date and announced that today was Mr. Fatherstones birthday, the anniversary of Tiltas marriage, and that the water, insurance, gas and light bills were due. (Bradbury, 1) This demonstrates how technology organized the residents that lived in the house. The residents relied on technology to make their lives less complex. The residents of the house had technology to sort out their daily affairs which made their lives easier and quicker. However, technology has also taken its toll on humans by threatening their lives. Technology has affected humans by threatening their livelihood. Many might not know it, but technology has a down side. Millions of lives have suffered because of today’s technology. Radioactivity and weapons are one of the many inventions that threaten the lives of humans. Technology is a reason why today’s wars have higher death rates. Inventions such as the Internet have increased crime rates such as identity fraud and theft. Many websites on the Internet contain confidential and pertinent information which can be tapped into effortlessly by computer hackers. Since the Internet is so large, it makes it difficult to detect the real criminals. Many websites also lure many naive adults and children and expose them to modern evils which lead to crimes of rape, death and many other hideous crimes. The story “By the Waters of Babylon” by Stephen Vincent Benét demonstrates how technology could threaten the existence of life. In the story, John the son of a priest says that when the gods had wars, they used unknown weapons. The weapons they used were poisonous fires that fell from the sky. Even after the city was destroyed the poison stayed in the ground. The city was broken and dead from these fires. (Benet 5).This signifies that humans will overuse technology. Humans will make technology a threat to civilization. Atomic and nuclear bombs will destroy the earth because technology has gone beyond its limit. There are many evidences that show that the Earth is on a path of self destruction from the many overly exposed uses of modern technology and radioactivity. Not only does technology affect humans by threatening their livelihood, but it also hinders social contact. Technology has affected humans by hindering human contact. Examples of teenagers texting their parents and chatting on social networks to keep up with their daily routines has eliminated verbal communication and the emotional connection with family and friends. Technology will affect the future generation by taking away the social etiquettes and the civil behavior that people have acquired from past socializations. Technology is also an addiction to the modern human. Humans use this technology from their homes to shop online, earn money online, run basic daily errands online and this has caused them to lose their own identities which disable them from ever leaving their homes. The story “There Will Be Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury illustrates how technology hinders human communication. In the story, the house started to communicate with the nonexistent residents. The house asks what poem Mrs. McClellan would like to read. Since there was no response, the house said that since there was no expression that a poem was would be selected at random. The house picks the poem “There will be soft rains” by Sarah Teasdale and recalls that this was her favorite poem.(Bradbury 2) This shows how technology has an effect on social communication. The house is communicating with a human. This demonstrates how the residents that lived there were using technology from their homes, to run their basic affairs. By doing this, in the future they would be lacking social skills since they completed everything through technology. The residents were to dependant on technology. . Technology has had its impact on the human civilization, by playing a role in every aspect of their lives with its benefits and misconceptions. Overall, Technology has had its advantages and disadvantages. Technology has affected mankind by improving their lives, threatening human livelihood, and by hindering social contact. Technology has made life easier, but it also has its downsides. Just like the quote that Samuel Collins said “Technology is neither good nor bad, nor even neutral. Technology is one part of the complex of relationships that people form with each other and the world around them; it simply cannot be understood outside of that concept”.

Well I am going to tell you who created what and how technology has changed our lives. Technology is a broad concept that deals with a person’s usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a person’s ability to control and adapt to its environment. In American society, it is a consequence of science and engineering, although several technological advances predate the two concepts. Even though technology may seem like a hassle for the older generations, it has greatly impacted the world because most families are dependent on technology as a part of their daily lives. Living in a modern society, technology has changed the world in an optimistic way, making many lives easier, safer, and better. To some extent, technology is inseparable from our lives. Through the years, technology has continuously bettered lives, even though there are incidences of the contrary.…

Computers, telephones, cars, television---all these gadgets and inventions have only just come about within the past century. Being such recent additions to society, people surely survived before their creation; sadly, there are rarely any people today that understand what that was like. Hardly ever are people not on their smartphones anymore, whether they’re texting their friends, looking something up, or using social media. Whatever the reason, people are constantly relying on technology to do something for them nowadays. The author Ray Bradbury emphasizes this in his short stories, “The Pedestrian” ,“The Veldt”, and “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains”, where the main characters rely so heavily on their technologically innovative houses to feed, entertain, and aid them in their daily lives that all the outcomes are anything but positive. Negative consequences like these aren’t fictional like most of the components of Bradbury’s stories, though; scientists have already found many…
