I will combine and address outsourcing, remote management, independent contractors and consultants altogether for this next trend as there are aspects in each of these that overlap. The big trend for outsourcing started a few years ago, there was a push in some markets and industries to go the outsourcing path and save big. While on paper a company paying $30 per hour + benefits could pay someone $2.5 per hour on contract with no benefits multiple by X employees looks amazing as a cost cutting measure and made strong impacts on profit it did not necessary turn out to the utopian solution some companies hoped for.
