EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This dissertation addresses the management of inventory systems. We deal with some information issues related to the demand process. Namely, how to control products that have intermittent demand. Moreover, we investigated the impact of data collection on the customer performance. Next, we investigated to what extend multiple-sourcing can lead to improvements of the inventory system. Finally two demand management strategies are investigated for smoothing demand. The first re-routes large customer orders to alternative stockpoint, whereas the second strategy splits a customer order in a time-phased delivery scheme.

This section is similar to the ABSTRACT of a thesis. Under this section, discuss the purpose of this report and a brief backgrounder about the project. Provide a sentence for the company profile, and the problems, opportunities, or directives encountered in the operation of the current system. Identify the scope of the project specifying the project limitations/boundaries and constraints.

Indicate the steps followed in developing the project or website. What tools were used (software requirements) and the testing implemented for the functionality of the site. Provide a brief description about the layout of the site, the website theme, features and security.

The last paragraph should contain the closing statements. Should this project be implemented? If this project would be implemented, what are the perceived benefits to the company? How would this project be maintained?

Automated systems can replace the cost and time consuming processes that were once completed by hand while providing companies with more accurate data.
