Teaching Strategies: Read the story “The Foot Book” to the children every day for a week. On the first day read the story in its entirety, afterward ask the children open-ended questions about the story. On the second day re-read the story in its entirety, when you finish show the children the pictures and have them retell the story based on the pictures they see. On the third day read a few sentences then stop and have the kids tell the next few sentences, taking turns between the teacher and the children. On the fourth day the teacher reads a word or two then stops allowing the kids to finish the sentence, alternating again between teacher and students. On the fifth day the teacher is to only turn the pages as the students tell the story.…

Each book is based in a different place in time and has a historical bases involved. Therefore, these books are great to use in history class to explain different time periods and allow for student to better connect with people in the past. Within the book many words foreign to children are explained. During the adventures, many things that are not pertinent in our time are explained with definitions that are bolded intertwined within the story line. This helps build children’s vocabulary in doing so it builds language proficiency.…

As looking through Box 4.7 in my textbook, I came to what for me would be the most useful research-based practice is developing reading skills and strategies in children. If a child does not possess any good reading skills, this child will not want to read. Developing these literacy skills will help them to achieve their reading goals. I believe all four of the shared reading strategies are extremely important to use in a classroom for a child’s reading success. As a teacher, I would use all four of them. But if I had to pick one I would introduce, talk about, and read a new story. As our book says, “there is no better way to create a love for books in children of all ages than by reading aloud” (Vecca, Page 127). This will also help them appreciate literature more “and build absolute strong concepts about reading and writing” (Vecca, Page 127). I work in an elementary school; I know how important it is to read aloud to children and on a daily basis. It helps to build their imagination and develop their own ideas and even begin developing their critical thinking skills. I also believe that it gets children involved with the book, especially young children. I believe to develop a love for reading, in turn to benefiting the student in the long run. Asking them before beginning the story, what do you think this story is about? Proceed to ask questions about the story during and after is another way to get them involved in the reading. If they know that questions are coming, this may get them to pay attention during the story more often..…

An important part of this assignment was to have the students engaged in the story. While reading the story I did several things that would keep the students engaged with Grandma Poss and Hush’s adventure. The first thing I did was I dressed up as Grandma Poss. I wore a purple apron with stars on it, glasses colorful socks, and white shoes, just like Grandma Poss wore in the story. Another this I did to keep the students engaged was have the students do movement or actions during the book. For example, every time a food was mentioned in the story the students would rub their tummies and say “Yummm”. I also had the students imitate several of the animals that were in the book, such as a kangaroo and a snake. I also had the students pretend…

As the day goes by the students are embracing the class routines and procedures more and more. Later in the day, during reading we continue reading the Magic Treehouse book, Dinosaurs Before Dark. After reading two chapters, we discuss as a class what has happened so far in the book and what could possibly happen next. Then the students worked on their interactive reading notebooks and cut out the handouts we passed out and glued them in their notebooks. Once the students finished, they were allowed to read and, or work in their interactive notebook.…

Before embarking upon this assignment I asked myself “Do I really know and understand why I teach the way I do”? It never crossed my mind until I realised that in some classes I found myself having to rethink and change my delivery methods so as to engage the younger students who didn’t always grasp what I had to say. To be honest, my previous experience of teaching delivery and development had been at the higher education level where participating students were focused and had little or no problem areas relating to their academic, I realise that I must relearn how to teach because the profile of the F.E. student has changed dramatically. My area of expertise is in Joinery & Carpentry studies which involves a great deal of practical delivery sessions at basic level to groups of 14 – 16 & 16-19 year old students of mixed abilities.…

Reading the literary texts required for module "F", I knew that teaching the stories as it is, would not be possible in the heterogeneous class as mine as it would never succeed. Aims: The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate and plan a story to read to a group of children aged 2 and half to 4. I chose this age group because this is the group I work with on a daily bases from 9:30 to 12:30 five days a week. I am picking a story called “Oh Dear” by Rod Campbell who is a Scottish writer and illustrator of several popular children's books including the classic lift-the-flap board book “Dear Zoo”. As it is a story that helps the children with learning the different animals on the farm and also encourages the children to use their imaginations as they lift up the different flaps in the book to see what is behind them. Which Maria Montessori says “Imaginative teaching materials are the heart of the process”. All of Rod Campbell’s “books have simple text often with repeating phrases which is ideal for pre-readers” and will also Help the children with langue and intellectual skills. “The child proceeds at his own pace in an environment controlled to provide means of learning” -Maria Montessori. this book also helps the children physically as they have to get up to lift up the flaps on the book “movement is therefore the essential of life education cannot be conceived of ad a means to moderate or worse to inhibit movement; it should only function as an aid to a better expenditure of energy whilst allowing it to develop normally” -Maria Montessori pg 102 discovery of a child. “The aim of the children who persevere in their work with an object is certainly not to “learn”; they are drawn to it by the needs of their inner life, which must be recognized and developed by its means.” – Maria Montessori pg 120 discovery of a child. To develop their attention spans…
