In the novel sal states “I started wondering if the birds of sadness nested in her hair.” This shows Sal is starting to understand that she had shouldn't have judged her. Then Sal thinks “...and affected the way I look at things” this shows and means sal will not judge people anymore because there may be other things that cause that to happen.
