The New York Times had a great profile piece on Nicki Minaj titled "The Passion Of Nicki Minaj", written by Vanessa Grigoriadis. Nicki opened up about her tough childhood, attending a top performing arts school, her hard beginnings as a rap artist, and having to be a "boss ass b*tch" to get respect in an industry that promotes a misogynist culture. And lastly her finding her own independence and success outside of a relationship. The profile was a nice read and had great insight into Nicki's career, so in case you've missed it I took the liberty to highlight the best parts for you below!…

From analysing the information of American born Aileen Wurnos (1965-2002) the serial killer, it becomes evident to suggest that her experiences from early childhood, which later led to a career of prostitution, had a great psychological impact on Aileen’s life. She accompanied Jost on Saturday night live,a comedy show that has been running since 1975, when they began discussing Lupita Nyong’o who was named the most beautiful person in the world. In this set of interviews, Angela Davis simultaneously addresses the issue of why we are stuck in this carceral state while also providing her solution, a solution that many would see as too radical. After first reading this interview, I thought immediately of the conversation we had with the two activists from Hands Up United. Society views her as an “enemy of the state”, as a communist and terrorist because of her use of violence as means to affect change, something very similar to what is happening now on the ground in cities like Ferguson and Baltimore. She also elaborated on tensions within the original civil rights movement because of multiple strands of activism running through the black community (ranging from Martin Luther King and Malcolm X to the Black Panther Party). However, Davis slightly complicates what the speakers from Hands Up said because it becomes clear that this is not a new type of activism (it might simply appear new because of how popular media sources have chosen to represent these events). Still this “new agenda” that she speaks of seems like the most appropriate approach after spending a semester looking at where we stand and how…

Whitney’s mother says it is the person’s responsibility, when they reach a certain age, to choose to be a bad or good person. Cissy discussed how she raised Whitney in a good home and gave her the tools to choose not to do drugs. I am reading an English book called 'Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac'. It is about a girl called Naomi 16 years old. It starts off when she is in hospital not knowing why she is there after she has hit her head from falling down some stairs at school. She doesn't remember anything that has happened to her since she was twelve years old such as her parents getting a divorce, who her friends are, or whether she has a boyfriend or not. The book covers a length of about a year roughly, although it doesn't really make it clear. It is quite an ordinary novel about a teenager struggling through her life which is now even harder to bear due to the fact that she doesn't remember anything about herself. The opening of the story starts off with her introducing her beginning (being…

The quote, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times" by Charles Dickens in his, "A Tale of Two Cities", represents a scenario that can be perceived as either positive or negative at the same time. Throughout history there have been many events considered the worst of times by some and the best of times by others. This can be seen throughout history in times when some people suffer while other prosper. How could the best of times be at the same time the worst of times? People who suffer, usually people in the lower class and the bourgeoisie, would call the time the worst of times and while people who prosper, usually owners of property, bushiness, or power, would call it the best of times. During the American Revolution, Civil War, and Civil Rights movement some people were prospering while others were suffering.…

After viewing the film I realized that Erin's public self was pretty much the same as her private self. The reasoning behind this is .that she treated Ed, her boss in the same manner as she treated George, her boyfriend. Erin didn't take crap from anybody but at times she did let her aggressions take over. Most of the time these hostilities would lead her in contempt, but in the long run usually worked out for the best. I will admit, it was a good way to get her point across at times but she could have approached some of these situations a little differently. Take, for example, the night Erin met George. Even though George was being inappropriately loud, she could have asked him nicely to be quiet instead of chewing him out angrily, even after he tried repeatedly to apologize to her.…
