One of the worst days in modern American history is September 11,2001. That day was a horrific day of events. On that day the leader of Al-Qaeda Osama Bin Laden ordered the attack on the Twin Towers in downtown Manhattan. This attack was the worst attack in history. When the towers came down it killed almost 3 thousand people. Ever since I was young I have always had a great deal of respect for our service men and women. I come from a military background. Both of my grandpas were in the military. When the attacks on 9/11/01 happened and I got older and came to understand more about what happened I became infuriated about it. I became infuriated that thousands of innocent people died at the hands of some gutless bastard who just wanted to kill Americans just because they were a American. Being an American is everything to me. It means that I have freedoms that other people are not fortunate enough to have. When something happens to my…
The following passage is a recollection of events from a sniper incident that happened on 3 March 2007. I was assigned to D Co 1-8 cav, and we were located in Northern Baghdad. I will conclude the Passage with a brief description of all that was gone over in the PEM.…
The harsh terrain in the area of modern Iran made it very difficult for humans to survive and find water sources. The arid climate meant more work for agriculture and agricultural surplus was very rare. Organizing the building of underground irrigation channels for agriculture required a strong central government. The connection between royal authority and prosperity can be seen in the ideology of the first Persian Empire. (p. 100, 102).…
Fish on! Fish on! We were fishing on Eagle Lake Canada and we were headed to our lucky spot by Bird Turd island it is out in the BIG lake. We are fishing on a windy day, we hit a huge 4 foot wave head on and our Crestliner boat capsized. I quickly grabbed my backpack, in my backpack I had a marine radio, a survival kit, sunscreen, and some extra food. We swam to closest island call Bird Turd island. I looked back, all of my belonging were sinking to the bottom of the lake. We were shipwrecked! I was screaming and screaming and screaming for help but no one could hear me. I heard a boat so I screamed so more and no one was there. I was hoping someone was coming. I stayed there for what felt like hours, so I decided to walk around and look at the island. I came across and tiny little shed.…
There were some salmon, but if I put them in my knapsack, it will turn bad. I got back to the shelter to grab my knapsack and decided to search for the second shelter, I went along the river, which led me downhill. It was a forest with huge trees, filled with life, but there are still salmon in the river, so I chose that instead. I broke off a branch and stabbed some salmon, I got two, which was plenty. I started a fire near the river to just cook the fish, I didn’t do it near the trees because they might catch fire. There wasn’t a place to take shelter, so I stayed up a tree the whole night, that is a typical…
I knew I wouldn’t make it to the top of the murky, warm and brown waters. I could feel the oxygen being released quickly from my lungs and bubbles swiftly skimming my skin as I slowly reached the bottom of the lake. I heard the faint cries for help and loud splashing as my sight becomes blurred. I felt someone’s hands grab mine and pull me onto the grainy dusty dirt. My vision comes back and I feel everyone’s eyes on me. They all immediately start laughing at me as I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me, feeling something tightly clutch my body.…
Over the winter break, me and my classmate decided to go to one of the national park, that place is Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve in Alaska. We also invited our school teachers. We chose to go with ferry but I am the only one who chose to go with my own car because I always arrive late so I thought it was a good choice for me. But one of my teacher worried that I might not know the way to the park so she follow me. I also take my pet bird Kiwi and my precious teddy bear with me. It was a beautiful morning and we started our trip to the national park. That day the temperature was really cold and the snow doesn’t stop falling but we still continue to go the place.…
The trip was quite fun because the mountains we were by were smooth while being very massive in size. The day was sunny at start but sooned became cloudy and grey I was worried that it would rain and we would have to cancel but that wasn’t the case. When we approached the lake it was massive very massive with little waves right behind each other while the smell of the open and the lake were all around me. The lake was beautiful while fish were jumping out into the air and splashed right back into the diamond lake. When I saw this I became so excited and was filled with joy. It was cloudy and breezy but the air around us was warm and soothing like being right by a fire on a breezy day. I quickly setup the equipment and grabbed my fishing rod, acquired the bait and started to fish. While I was fishing my Nina and her husband set up right by the edge of the ramp and me and my sister were set up on the side. The dog was right at the edge and about to fall of the ramp but he just stood there staring into the endless darkness of the lake. As i was enjoying the air I felt a tug on my rod and instantly knew There was a fish at the end, I instantly started to reel in my line a was struggling just a bit, the fish was also struggling and it was determined by who had the most stamina. I reeled in my line and there was a mid to large sized fished on the line and I felt proud that I caught my first fish of the day. After a hour I caught 4 fish and felt proud of myself for actually staying a whole day outside and having fun. We decided to head to the house when it started to rain. When we arrived at the house it was already turning night so we headed in but before we did that my Nina showed me how to gut a fish, even though it was disgusting it was informational. After that the rest of the stay was very relaxing and pleasent and was glad to travel there for half of the…
During breakfast they announced to us that we would be doing things different that day. We all needed to return to our cabins as soon as we finished eating and put on tennis shoes, sun block, to bring a lot of water. After we all did that we met at the circle and they told us that we were climbing a mountain as a bonding experience. So they put us in groups of three with people in our cabins, but the task was for us to bond with someone that we didn’t know. We started our journey and coincidentally my group had gotten stuck behind a group of girls from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Now none of knew these girls, but I did know that one of them had given me a dirty look at lunch the day before so I wasn’t too thrilled about walking by them. We were all having a nice walk until about half way up the mountain it had gotten really steep. It was like trying to walk up a gravel wall. Everyone on my group successfully made it up, and two people form their group did but for some reason the girl who gave me a dirty look was having trouble. She just couldn’t get up there. Everyone in her group had walked up ahead so I was forced to help her. As I was standing there everything inside of me was telling me not to help her, but I had to think about what if that was me. So I couldn’t jus let her stay down there, so I helped her. We walked up the rest of the mountain together. We talked and I came to find out that she was a really nice…

We got two rooms which we waited for 2hrs for . We stayed in the hotel the first day but not the next. The 2nd day I checked with my mom and grandma we found a lot of different stores. The same day we checked out a lot of San Diego by walking . When we finished checking out San Diego my parents…
First, we spend a one hour to get there; we get there around 6:00 in the morning. We start to set up everything that we bring from home. When we finish, we take a five to ten-minute break before we go the river and have fun, and then we eat something fast like potato chips. Then, we go to the river and have fun. Suddenly, I heard my brother yelling help, help, help; he had a muscle cramp underwater that he cannot move or swim at all. We must call the Rangers’ office because he cannot support the pain he had that day, and I even had to drive back home. On my way to the deeper side of the river I met this person, he told me that my future was going to be great. I started a conversation about how to be a great business owner; he told me the benefits the weaknesses of becoming a business owner.…
The sun was beating down, making the sand burn my feet. As I walk up and down the coastline, me feet bury in the burning hot sand. The waves crash into the nearby rocks. Pelicans are flying over my head. Looking into the distance, I can see a sailboat, far into the ocean. My family walks behind me holding a picnic basket and a blanket. We had planned this picnic for weeks now. As we pick our spot to set up the picnic, me and my dad begin to play catch with the frisbee. The wind blew into my face when I ran up and down the beach to catch the frisbee. My dad threw the frisbee right into the water. When I dropped my foot into ice cold water, I didn’t know if I was going to be able to get the frisbee. The water was way too cold for me to go in.…
This summer I went to camp with my friends. It was one day and night trip. There were about 12 children. We put up our tent near the river to hear river flows and swim. To me beginning was extremely nice. But suddenly it rained so heavily. Because of the rain we all got wet and cold. Although we knew there were no branches that didn’t wet, we decided to collect branches to make a fire. Also it was getting darker. So I climbed the forest with my 5 male friends. The one of them was climbing more higher and higher. Suddenly he came down so quickly and said that a drop of water dropped on his head from tree. He surprised and looked around there was nothing except that tree. His face was looked pale and frightened. Because of that we were so afraid. However, we started collecting branches. When I sat down to collect few branches, something hit my back. So I asked my friends who was he that threw branch at me? They all said they are not except only one friend of mine who was smiling secretly. So I asked him. He also said “I’m not”. I got goosebumps and about to cry. But he said “I threw only cone of pine at you”. That was really relief. When we finished and went back, I was walking in front of them. They called me loudly and made me to stop walking. They run to me quickly, said there was something behind me and following my steps. I was really afraid and began to cry. Suddenly they all comforted and hugged me warmly, and said “it was only joke” with big smile. Altough they told me it was joke, I couldn’t talk anymore about 4 hours. That was the worst holiday in my life……
The sunny day of a Wednesday makes me feel amazing and prepare for that day in the university. I get up, eat my breakfast and take all the stuff to begin my journey to that day. When I get to the university I saw all my friends on the classroom. Entered to the room where anybody is looking and when I looked I feel like if I doesn’t exist. I start to get panic because I can’t even touch anyone of them. Then a girl with a red dress came to me and told me that I was dead because I got an accident in the car the day that the weather was really bad. We start talking and all the things that she said to me don’t make any sense because that day I came to my house and start eating with my family.…
The saddest day of my life, was on July 1, 1999, the same year I graduated from Andrew Jackson Senior High School, Jacksonville, Florida. I was planning to attend a local Community College during the Fall Term to pursue my career as a Dental Hygienist, but a devastating yet tragedy occurred. On June 9, 1999, my fathered phoned me asking to meet me for lunch, because he had to speak with me in reference to a serious matter. I wasn’t sure what to think, when he insisted on meeting, but I knew it had to be important. After arriving for lunch, he them explained the reason for me being there. First, he stated he asked me there, because he was very ill and will be dying soon. After hearing that, I was uncertain of what to say, feel, do, or even expect from the news I had received. From knowing the type of man my father was, he was very stubborn, when it came to eating healthy exercising, and taking his med’s properly. It was about two weeks later, that my father’s health wasn’t getting any better, which caused me to become sadden, because I couldn’t heal him. It was then that I knew I needed to prepare my heart for what was to be expected. Finally, it was around 11:30p.m., that I received a phone call, from I-95 State Trooper, stating that they have found a John Doe, off the side of the road, who has suffered from a massive heart attack. It puzzled me how they found my picture, but I remembered that I gave him a photograph of me so I he will always have a picture close to his heart, which he placed in his wallet along with my number on the reverse side, the night he was found deceased. I then knew from that point on, that my life would never be the same. My mind knew it was to be expected, but my heart was feeling otherwise. The feeling was unexplainable; something I never knew could hurt so bad and affect me in a strong way. In conclusion, a bond between a father and a daughter could never be…
