Maori in New Zealand played a game called Ki-o-rahi with teams of seven players playing on a circular field divided into zones and scored points by touching the boundry markers and hitting a central target. A Japanese version was played during the Asuka period and was called Kemari. It was played within a Japanese imperial court in Kyoto in about 600 A.D..
