After a while on the island under Ralph’s rule, the boys get tired of working all day long and decide to join Jack’s tribe. Jack has a contrasting view of life on the island and his tribe just hunts and feasts. They do not even have shelters. Ralph and Piggy are the last to switch over to Jack’s tribe and when they do, all of the boys start chanting the hunting song they made up. “The beast struggled forward, broke the ring and fell over the steep edge of the rock to the sand by the water. At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore” (Goulding 213). After the boys killed Simon, Ralph realized what he did was wrong and he left Jack’s tribe. This shows that bad people can get good people to do evil things, but the person will always be good at heart.…

The author of the article, “The Futility of Vengeance” explains that revenge is something that can lead to bad and uncomfortable situations for both the initial bully and the retaliator if appropriate actions are not taken. The author believes that revenge should be taken more seriously so that only one person can be considered the one in the wrong when it comes to legal matters. She talks about how the desire for revenge consumes people's lives, and leads them to do awful things. The author, Kate Murphy, includes examples of revenge scenarios such as Allen Kurzweil’s “Whipping boy” about how he got bullied as a kid, and how he finds and tracks down the bully. She uses this example to demonstrate that revenge is a very powerful motive when it comes to some people. She also explains how the victims just want to hear a heart filled apology, and she points out that is ironic because people will not say sorry after you take revenge.…

When one is done wrong in a particularly hurtful or offending way, getting revenge is sometimes thought of as the most satisfying way of regaining ones sense of self worth. This plan, however, holds an immense possibility of backfiring in ways never dreamed of. In fact, the outcome of the situation at hand is sometimes made worse than it might have been if this course of action is taken. Arthur Miller demonstrates this in his tragic play The Crucible, by showing the reader that although giving in to feelings of vengeance is easy to do, choosing the path of forgiveness often leads to better results in the long run.…

Weevil is bleeding! That cruel Warden Gossel hit him on the head with the butt of an ax. Oh poor Weevil, I have never seen so much blood. That’s not necessary a bad thing, head wounds always bleed like that, right? I tried to wake him up, but he just twitched, and grunted. Okay, at least he is conscious now. I shook him a little, and asked him he was okay, again all he gave me grunt. Then he mumbled something like, I can’t remember, then he stopped. My mind raced to a couple years ago. A farmer in our village, got kicked in the head by his mule. He had a head injury just like Weevil’s, and forgot his wife. At the time Weevil and I thought he was faking it, to get revenge on his wife for all the times she yelled at him, but now, I think he…
