CRITIC SPEECH SAMPLE OUTLINE

I. INTRODUCTION A. Attention-Getter: 1. Are you ready for a bold new breed of R&B? Present the Topic: This question can be answer can be listening to the album Trilogy by the up and coming artist The Weeknd. B. Thesis Statement: I enjoyed the album “Trilogy” by The Weeknd because I feel it gives birth to a new style of music. C. Preview of Main Points: I will now give you a 1. Description of “Trilogy” 2. And, my personal Evaluation of the album.

BODY A. Description of Album: 1. “Trilogy” is an unconventional R&B Album. 2. This is the debut album from the artist The Weeknd, it is the retail compilation of three previously free projects that included House Of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes Of Silence. 3. There are two guest appearances on the album that include well known hip-hop and r&b artist’s Drake and Juicy J. 4. Majority of the tracks on the album are lengthy, with some songs being as long as 8 minutes. 5. The Weeknd himself, was involved in the writing of 29 of the 30 tracks on the album, and also produced two of the tracks. 6. The album includes a track dubbed “D.D” which is a Michael Jackson cover of “Dirty Diana.” Where the two sound strikingly similar. 7. The top singles from the album “Trilogy” includes the tracks “Wicked Games” and “The Zone” which features Drake. 8. It isn’t your typical R&B album, The Weeknd sings in a falsetto register, accompanied by slow-tempo, a lot of bass, and uses forlorn echoes in his music. I feel the album could be best described as a after party of an after party, or the aftermath of an intoxicated mindstate that confronts the lust, hurt, and over indulgences of the events the night before.

9. (Transition) With this understanding of the album “Trilogy,” I’d like to now focus on my evaluation of this album.

B. Evaluation of Album: 1. The album caught my attention as a listener

The first track to start off with is good track titled "3peat" which displays Wayne’s freestyle ability. The way Lil wayne uses his metaphors, similes and all different types of figurative language on this track is amazing as i recall one metaphor relating to viagra which i thought was quite clever and unique in a sense. However, The album will proceed with the next track called, "Mr. Carter" featuring Jay-Z that winds up being one of worst tracks on the album. The beat is ok but it seemed as if Lil Wayne didn't put any effort into his verses.…

Though this album has a somewhat new sound and all new music, it very much captures the essence of their older albums, including Crash, showing the beautiful and influential songs that the group has been writing and producing for the last twenty-one years. One new song featured in the interview, “Gaucho” is about “[fighting] for what we believe in” among other important ideas. Other songs such as “Sweet” are written about less pressing issues that remain just as influential. As time has gone on, things have changed for the group, and that…

Purpose is a fantastic album that is Grammy worthy . It ranges from dance songs to " soothe " songs that show his amazing vocals . I didn't like the fact that most of the songs have the same beat which can make the album seem kind of-of annoying . I want to know which song you prefer No Sense or No Pressure ? I did go to his concert when he came to Miami , and it was lit I just wished that he spent more time singing than dancing . I give the album an 8/10 because some of the songs have the same beat . If you want to buy an album that has romance , inspirational songs , and dance songs then this is the album for you…

Nadain (2002) describes poetry as a puzzle: “you piece together words to form a beautiful image. When everything fits together perfectly, you are left with a breath-taking product” (p.31): a breath-taking, emotional experience. Poetry is used as a way of expressing and finding meaning in few words. A melody of passion flowing out onto the pages, words that flow into each other and yet express the inner most thoughts and feelings of those who read the words. It is a gift, being able to illuminate words so that they form a picture, express a feeling and share a thought in so few words. Unlike telling a story or writing a novel that explains every intricate detail, a poem leaves you to draw your own conclusion and create structure and order to your personal nature (Shaw, 2008. P. 175).…
