The Fabulous Button Sisters.

The teenage girl Karen is going to a party at her friend Rory’s house. Before the party Karen talks on the phone with her best friend Michelle. Michelle is the new girl in school and appears to have the most exciting life. Michelle is waiting to hear from her mother who is trying to make it in Hollywood. Dressed up for the party, Karen goes to meet Michelle. Michelle lives with her aunt because Michelle’s mother is in Hollywood trying to become famous. Michelle is waiting to join her mother in Hollywood and also to be famous.
Characterization of Karen:
Karen is a teenage girl living with her parents. Karen has a best friend, Michelle. Karen is clumsy and that we see on page 8 in the text when she says “when I found myself knocked into the gutter for the umpteenth time”. Karen comes across as being insecure and very easy influenced by other people. It shows when Michelle says they need to keep up with all the new diets and Michelle also decides what color food they need to eat. Karen just goes along with it, not asking any questions. Because as Karen says on page 10, “apparently everybody is doing it”. Karen finds some security in knowing everybody else is doing it, probably because she knows its not healthy for her. So it is a way to convince herself that its okay to be so extreme in relation to food.Throughout. out the whole story we are given a picture of Karen as being insecure, easily influenced, the underdog to Michelle and also infatuated by Michelle and her life style.
Michelle’s behavior:
Michelle appears to be an energetic girl with a fabulous life. She is dominating and determent. She has a need to be in the spotlight at all times. In the story Michelle’s behavior towards Karen could be interpreted as cruel, as if Michelle is just using Karen. I believe Michelle is
